"Default Gateway is not Available" Windows 8.1 Error

It seems I have joined the crowd in this consistent error. Let me start by saying I'm using a wired connection.

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and this error started happening. As soon as it did, I jumped into the Googlemobile to try to figure it out. Here is a list of what I've tried:

  • Uninstalled/reinstalled drivers via Device Manager
  • Updated drivers
  • Changed networking drivers to and from default
  • Changed 'Speed & Duplex' to and from 100 Mbps Full Duplex
  • Swapped to a wireless connection
  • Upgraded router firmware
  • Power cycling
  • Deleted and reset network connections
  • Changed antivirus (Using, and have been using, Webroot)

Needless to say, I'm stumped. This happens anywhere from every hour to every few minutes. Including ipconfig.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would think that updating the drivers directly from the Asus site would be working to fix this issue.

It does show 8.1 drivers for your system and I can't imagine why they wouldn't be working. You may need to update the bios and the chipset drivers as well.

First, I'd like to thank you for your response. I'm now downloading the chipset and bios, and will respond as soon as I know if that worked.~

I do believe that worked! It still may be too early to tell, but it hasn't occurred again since both of those updates.

I hope this isn't premature, but thank you!

That's great, run it for a day or two to make sure it's fixed then please report back in with your results.

Well, good sir, it turns out that the problem has happened again. It seems like it's only happening whilst a game is open, be it an internet-based game or otherwise.

I knew there was a reason I didn't mark 'Solved'. =[

Only while a game is open? That is strange, which game is this?

What model Belkin router are we using here?

The two it has happened with so far, after your initial suggestion of fixes, is "Elder Scrolls Online" and "Daylight". The former being net-based, the latter not. Both are full-screen, if that makes any difference.

I have yet to have a Gateway instance while doing general non-gaming activities, post update.

It's acting like the games are somehow causing the problem. Have you tried changing the DNS IP in the Belkin router to something common like Google's DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

You might also try manually adding the gateway IP from the Belkin router "192.168.2.1" to the IPv4 static settings for Default Gateway.

I apologize for the late response; work has kept me busy. I've tried changing the router DNS, and I don't seem to have an option to set the IPv4.

Despite that, I still continue to receive this error.
