win8.1 to winXP printer

My wife runs a win XP computer and we just got a new HP LaserJet printer, our computers are networked mine is win 8.1 hers is win XP, our old printer went gunnybag and I could access it with my computer, but I can't seem to be able to access the new one, HELP me...

The printer is never described as the OS. It is stated by the model. What is the model of the HP LaserJet that you are using? Go here Supported Printers for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 | HP® Support to find the best driver or to see if your Laserjet is supported. It should be, since most Laserjets use Jet Direct, which is tried & true, and works with just about any OS out there.

On that link, there is a pull down for every Printer type that HP has mfg.

Did you look in the link that I posted, to see if it is listed in there?

Was not listed..

Then it is not capable of working on Windows 7. It will though work on Linux.

They appear to be available for download at the second link below though it's a bit confusing because with this first link for the M1530 when you click on "Drivers and Software" it takes you to the second link for the M1536 which I assume is a similar model that uses the same drivers so may be worth a try.

Installing the correct drivers for Windows 8 or 8.1 should have this up and running. Hopefully the drivers in the link will work.

If it runs on Windows 7, try Backwards compatibility for the driver installation. Worst case scenario. You can still use it for faxing and copying documents. Technology like printers. Got left behind, due to manufacturers would not get on board with the OS manufacturers.

From looking at the information on hp.com. It does appear to still work with Mac OS-10.5.

Is this considered feed back from the links I posted which by the way should be working?

That response meant it did not work. what I am looking to do is get the printer to work with my computer which is networked with my wife's computer without being hard wired to it...

I guess the model that HP referred to doesn't use the same driver as your model although I would keep looking for a solution along those lines because without a compatible Windows 8 driver it's not going to work.

Have you tried the Backwards compatibility in windows 8. Download the Windows 7 driver, then run the setup in windows 7 compatibility.
