Solved "Share With" Drop Down selections

I had added an additional user account, and then later deleted it, however it keeps showing up as an option when you right click on a folder, click "Share With" it is still an available "user" to share with. How do I remove that user from the dropdown?

My guess is the information was left in the Registry. I would first back up the Registry using a Restore Point, and/or ERUNT

Then I wour run CCleaner Registry Clean and fix all issues. I'd also save the CCleaner backup file when prompted. It may find no user account and delete the info. But I'm only guessing. As long as you save your Registry info it shouldn't hurt to try it.

Thanks for the info, I tried deleting the account again in netplwiz, then running ccleaner. Ccleaner found some items, fixed them, but unfortunately it did not remove the account.... Any other thoughts?

Just for grins run services.msc and see if Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is running. If so stop and disable it. Try deleting the account again.

chev65, I can't follow that procedure, because that is how I originally deleted the account and it no longer shows up there, it only shows up using netplwiz

Miles Ahead, I checked and the windows media player sharing service is not running.

The registry is the only other place you can remove a user profile but you would have to figure out which one to delete by clicking on one of the S-1-5-21-1582252562-3567101682-4055816014-1001 registry account numbers in order to see which account it's associated with.

Does the account have media files in the WMP library? The only clue I found the WMP service had files locked and it did not allow taking ownership or deleting the files in the user account. The account reappeared similar to this description. I didn't find any other fixes.

I tried this, and the other accounts are there, however the problem account is not listed in the profile list. It is still visable using netplwiz

One thing that's odd, that may be worth mentioning, is that even if I don't delete thee account, and I change the properties of the account to something other than "Other", such as standard, apply it and restart.... It always reverts back to "Other" as the group

The user could still be associated with a user profile or could still be a member of a particular user group some place in the computer management (Local users and groups) of which there are 19 different groups listed.

Besides this I think I'm about tapped out here.

How would I find out if the account had files in the WMP library? That might make sense because I had created it to use with the xbox glass app, then decided not to use the xbox app... Maybe I should delete the xbox glass app?

If the user didn't show up in the registry under "profile list" then how could you delete it?

You might want to check in the Windows Credential Manager in the Control Panel.

Cannot delete library in Windows Media Player 12 - Microsoft Community

I don't use WMP except for PGS subtitle support for HD videos, and never for sharing so I'm not familiar with the library and other features.

You might want to check in the Windows Credential Manager in the Control Panel.

It was always there, it just did not have the correct name associated with the account, I read elswhere to compare the profile list to another location (Don't recall where at the moment) and the one that did not exist in both places was the culprut. So I deleted it and all instances in the registry. It did not affect any other users, or anything with the machine, but the user did pop back up on rebooting the machine, yet all references in the registry are stil gone.

I figured the user had to be where I said it was but I have no idea if someone changed the profile the user is associated with.

Did you check Windows credentials manager to see if the user is there?

Yes, you were correct, it was just difficult to find, Microsoft sure has a way to make it difficult....
Where/How do I check the windows credential manager?
Thanks Again, baby steps but in the end I hope to get this pesky little problem resolved, I know it's not affecting anything - but it's just really annoying.
I did also note one time that it did not pop up right away on reboot, it took a little time, not a long time, but 30 seconds or so past when the computer was usable enough to run netplwiz.

Make no mistake this easily qualifies as the F up of the century on Msoft's behalf. In my opinion the second that user is removed then every credential and registry entry also needs to be removed automatically but that certainly isn't the case.

I'm still not sure if you checked if the User is a member of a User Group via the Computer Management for Users and Groups, I hope I do not need to show you where this is located as well because it shows up under "Computer Management".

I realize this isn't a real problem other than it just bugs you and it would bug me as well so I get where you are coming from.

Ok the credential manager is located in the Control panel "large icons" second row from the left, second one down, Windows credentials is the one you want. Check for the name there, If it shows up then remove it.

There could also be some of the old C:\Users folder from this particular user remaining someplace on the system.

OK, I checked the credential manager, nothing was there, but there were 2 xbox smartglass accounts listed, I removed them both, removed in netplwiz, restarted and its back....

If the computer management you mentioned is in System Properties, Advanced then User Profiles then I checked and it is not there.

Another note, it does not reappear if I log out of an account and back in, or log into another account ONLY on a Reboot
