Windows 8.1 Question

I purchased an HP 110-014 desktop computer running Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I would like to make this computer a "cloud" type of computer. I know about Owncloud, Dropbox, Onedrive, Google drive, etc... I use most of the cloud services but you have to pay for extra storage. I was thinking why not try to make this Windows 8.1 computer a "cloud" type of computer where I control how much storage space to use. I know with Owncloud you have to install PHP and other related scripting software and configure the computer to work. I am trying to stay away from that stuff. I want to make this as easiest as possible.

Unfortunately, Windows 8 is a typical desktop OS which is OK but it would be nice to have a "cloud" feature added to it. I do have Dropbox, Onedrive and Google drive installed on this computer. These services work fine on this computer but it is too bad that I can't access this computer from the web. It would be nice to have a web interface so make it easier to connect to it.

Any suggestions?

Sorry to ask, but why would anybody want his data in the sky when disks are so inexpensive. The risk of losing your data are a lot higher than if you control it yourself.

Hey Wolfgang,

One reason would be that having the data on the cloud would make it a lot easier to share and access from any PC or device.

I would agree, that you should keep the data backed up somewhere off cloud to be extra safe though.

Hello pfisher, and welcome to Eight Forums.

For what you are wanting, you might see if a NAS box may work for you for this.

Here's something to look at for an idea.

Shawn, I understand that. That's why I have my 128GB stick. That is my cloud and easy to carry anywhere, LOL.
