Currently im making my house a home network to make the resources of my computer available to all, I have 2 Laptops running in the home group and 1 desktop

BOTH laptops are running Windows 8, the Desktop is running windows 7 ultimate...

on the home group when i go to "share folder with" option, the laptops have the capability of showing eachother files, the DESKTOP has the capability of JUST the homegroup... I cannnot for the life of me figure out where i went wrong, exact steps with all 3...

I'm not completely sure what you mean, can you show a picture of this?

I can post pictures later, and not everyone can afford a NAS, just saying, home group comes free, so why not experiment with it..

and I mean..

On each laptop connected, when i right click a file/folder and choose share with, the options of (none, homegroup, everyone, OTHER laptop) shows up, when i try on the desktop, only 3 options show up (none, homegroup, everyone)

That would be because the other laptop has another User account setup on that machine so that account is showing up on the "Share With" list, where the desktop doesn't have any other User accounts so they don't show up on the "Share With" list.

In this case it's working as it should be.

Don't know if this is your problem or not. I had a desktop and added two laptops to the network and had fits. I found that both laptops set up a home group but not the same one. Yours may have set up okay from what you said.

I finally had to delete the homegroups on the two laptops and then connect to the one on the desktop. Worked fine for me.

the laptop i use only has the administrator user, and i have the option of sharing JUST to this laptop... so maybe im not clear what your saying to me, but If i do your saying.. if i make a "user account" on the desktop I SHOULD theoretically be able to see the other users?

In theory the other users would only show up if they have an account on that same machine.

In your case it seems that there is another user account on the laptop show it's showing more than one user.

Maybe you aren't aware of this other account which may have been created inadvertently?

Hard to say from my end but if the extra name is showing up on the "Share With" list then there is an account for that user on that particular machine.

It's easy enough to check for this other account and remove it if required via the link below.

I thought that was my issue, but FROM each laptop I am able to access the desktops files that have be shared, but i cannot share individual files to each user(laptop) but I CAN share individual files TOO desktop from each user(laptop)

i will defiantly post pictures later today when i get the chance, my wording is not doing me justice, but it does make complete sense about created users, (even though I am the admin on my account, theres still an "admin admin" created)

Yes any other account showing up will end up being on the "Share With" list.

You should only see the main Admin account and the Guest account which isn't active per the picture below.

That looks good, maybe you can show where both machines are showing up on the Share with/Specific People, list?

With Homegroup problems it's usually best to start over by leaving the Homegroup on all machines then create a new one and rejoin the new Homegroup from the other machines.

Assume you have right clicked on main drive of laptops/properties/sharing and shared the drives. If that isn't enough in security you might need to set permissions.

I attempted the leave and create new with no progress, but managed to take screen shots

I'm not sure why those names were on the list unless the user accounts were added by someone, there is no telling the sequence of events that caused this problem to occur in the first place. It may have something to do with the previous owners of those attached drives showing up on the "share with" list but I can't say for sure.

It is definitely not a Homegroup related problem, if it was then I'd be seeing the same problem over and over again.

When things are working correctly you should only see names on the list that have a User account on that same PC.

Another problem I see is that in the last picture the Desktop-PC shows Unknown Contact as the owner which isn't right. You should be seeing the Desktop-PC (Whatever@msn.com) name there along with it's Microsoft account address.

I'm not sure how these were messed up but I've personally never seen quite this same problem occur in the past.

Windows 8 is very picky about moving around default User file locations.

That wouldn't present any issues although the User account on the Windows 7 machines may be corrupted as well.

It looks like someone made changes to the default NTFS security settings with the Owner showing up as 'Unknown Contact on the Desktop.

You could try the steps to fix a corrupted User account but I'm not completely sure that is the main issue here.
