Remote Desktop stopped working after 8.1 update

I just got a new computer today. Yay! I have a little problem though. My old computer was running Win 8.1. The new Computer came with 8. I only have one monitor so I was using Remote Desktop to access the old computer and transfer things over. At some point I decided to upgrade the new one to 8.1. Now they're both on 8.1 That's the only thing that changed, but Remote Desktop stopped connecting. I can access folders and such across the network. I can log into the old one with Team Viewer but Remote Desktop will not connect. It keeps saying the other computer is offline or does not allow remote connections (it does, I checked multiple times) is there something that changed in 8.1 that would stop Remote Desktop from working?

Out of curiosity I tried using Remote Desktop from my laptop and it connected to the old computer fine. So it must be something on the new one.

Edit: I've now also tried connecting from the new PC to the laptop with RD and it gave me the same error about the laptop being offline or something

Edit 2: Now I tried it again so I could get a screenshot of the error message and it worked fine.

Just wondering if you ever managed to solve this issue beyond it 'magically working'? I am having the same problem now with a Windows 8.1 machine - new out of the box, and with an older machine which was upgraded to 8.1. This is impacting my ability to serve clients, so I'm getting a bit panicky! Here's the link to my issue:

Sorry I have no idea why, but it just started working again by itself. Might have been a random glitch.

Thanks anyway...I did find a consistent error/solution (just in case someone else gets to this thread). Now, in my case, I got NO ERROR, but some people get these errors. In all cases, the solution is the same from what I can tell:

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, some users are facing problems with using Remote Desktop. Sometimes the Remote Desktop settings is greyed out. It may also show the error

“This computer can’t connect to the remote computer”.
“The problem might be due to low virtual memory on your computer. Close your other programs, and then try connecting again”

The issue can be fixed by editing the registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Terminal Server Gateway\ Messages\ <Domain>\ <USERNAME>\ UserPreferenceOption. Change value to 0.

The Upgrade to windows 8.1 has broken Remote desktop in

I have three devices I use in producing some software: My main Desktop (Win 7 Ultimate); My mobile desktop (win 7 Pro) and my Surface Pro(Win 8.1).
Originally my Surface ran Windows 8 and after getting all the firewalls and setting to allow it I could remote desktop from any of my devices to any of the others. Recently, after upgrading to Win8.1 PRO, I tried to remote from my Desktop(win7) to My Surface pro, but I couldn't. The connection acted as if the FW was blocking. I checked all settings(System; remote access) and they were correct. I turned off the FW on both and still could not connect into my Surface Pro. With the FW on I can RDT Out from Win8 to either of the win7 devices, but I cannot RDT into Win8.1.
I've found very little on this on problem out amongst the internet sites;, the few threads I have found no solution was proferred. Has anyone determined what this problem is; experienced this problem; solved this problem?
