Hi everyone,

I have 2 laptops, my Win8.1 laptop is a HP Pavilion dv7 and my other laptop is a Dell XPS M1530 running Win7. My HP can access the internet on a wireless network at 75-85Mbps (my incoming internet connection is 75Mbps) while my Dell (which is 3 ft. away can only access the same wireless connection at 15-20Mbps. I'm trying to bridge the HP to the Dell with cable to increase the download speed of the Dell, hopefully. I am having some problems and need step-by-step guidance on how to achieve what I want to do. I know its possible but I'm rusty and not afraid to admit I need help LOL.

Very appreciative,

JP

Why not try to fix the Dell properly?

In Device Manager, right click the wireless. Choose Properties. Details tab. Change the dropdown to say hardware ids. Copy/paste the lines shown below to a new post here.

CTRL + A = selects all
CTRL + C = copy
CTRL + V = paste

Also, you should update your router's firmware to latest. We might have other settings to put, depending on the information requested above.

Thanks for the advice Master Chief but your advice didn't help. I did find out something, if I connect the Dell laptop direct to the router with capable of 85Mbps but connecting with cable has a different SSID (my old SSID) than connecting wirelessly.

Is this normal or do I have a setup problem with the router or laptop?

Thanks again, JP

lol of course it didn't help, since you never copied/pasted the info I asked for. heh heh

Ya, wireless and wired each have their own mac address (hardware address) so the router will always see each as their own connection.

LOL, sorry MSG (yeah, I'm a Vietnam vet.

I thought you meant to put those 3 items in the dropdown. I've just been so frustrated I can't think straight or maybe it's the wine.

I will do as you request ASAP.

Thanks for your understanding.

If it doesn't install well and update the driver, please tell me if the Dell is a 32 bit or 64 bit Windows machine.

I can edit the installer for you so it installs easily for 32 bit, but if it is 64 bit, then there would be a few extra steps necessary on your part.
