Internet Problem With Windows not Ubuntu

I have Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed on my Desktop. Every so often both versions of Windows will not connect to the internet (hard wired), even though my modem is working fine. Boot into Ubuntu and the internet is blazing fast. There are numerous threads all over the internet regarding this issue. What is strange is that the next day Windows is able to connect to the internet. Any ideas what is going on?

Steps I have taken:

1. Did a ipconfig /flushdns in administrative mode;
2. Repaired Winsock;
3. Reset TCP/IP

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Well Avg would not run in Ubuntu as the Windows 7 partition was not recognized. That being said, I just logged into W7 and the internet is up and running. What are the chances this is a virus or some other issue with both W7 & W8?

Could my ISP be throttling my connection?

You might need to mount your Windows partitions on your Ubuntu desktop in order for it to Virus Scan Windows. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions

It might be a throttling issue I do not know. test your connection speed in both Windows and Ubuntu How to Test Your Internet Speed from the Command Line

The last time I scanned with ClamAV I do not remember having to mount the Windows partitions but it was a while ago. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Alpha 2 yesterday and it auto mounted the Windows partitions to my desktop.

Yes, it does, which is why I was surprised I was unable to run AVG. I'm good with this stuff but I am a bit stumped as I followed the directions to the letter. I will try again tomorrow.

Did you install anything from Apple or Adobe with mdnsresponder.exe in the Task Manager present now? (That's the notorious Bonjour service.)

Mount Windows partitions on Ubuntu using File Manager

I found a simple way to mount windows Partitions on Ubuntu.
Simply look in the left pane of the file manager for the partition you wish to mount and click on it - it will be mounted and its contents will show up in the main pane. Partitions show with their labels if labelled, or their size if not.

Right click partition and choose the mount option.

Yes that service is running. I gather it should be disabled. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And thanks!

Yup, I knew that and must have had a brain fart. I will run the scan when time permits. Thanks.

Make sure you get the clamavlog analyzed by a pro before deleting anything because sometimes clamav will produce false positives.

I think nowadays that you can just uninstall it normally from the uninstall programs list.

It is very well known to bring down connections on Windows machines. It has done it to me many years ago, and I fixed countless machines for people online by suggesting to remove it.

Should be tried at the very least, yes.

After a reboot, if it still is not fixed, we can run some winsock commands to continue attempts.

I disabled the service, but the program is not installed. I checked Windows Programs and Revo Uninstaller.

Windows Steam Server

One option for you is to backup your essential data from windows then delete your windows partition and setup a Windows Steam server on another computer.

I was watching the Linux Action show this morning and they were demonstrating the new Steam Server for Windows you can setup for your household. It streams games and any application from Windows to your Linux Box.

Interesting concept. I'm not sure that is right for me, but I will look into it.
