Admin challenges with M/S

I JUST got this systems with Windows 8. I am trying to keep an open mind but so far am not at all impressed. I don't care for S\W that wants to think and make decisions on what I want to do. (yes I know there are arguments for this as well! :) ) I logged into the windows store and was told I could update to 8.1 for free. When I tried to do this I was told I must be an administrator to handle this. I am the only account on the system and it is identified as the admin.

I only wanted the update since there are apps that mandate it. I can work around but am NOT a full time IT guy. I only dabble, therefore I am in possession of just enough knowledge to be dangerous.... Any observations on why the M/S store will not recognize my user account as an admin would be gratefully accepted.

(By the way, I am in awe of people who live in this world. I want to know more about the IT environs, but time and commitments seem to be a fair obstacle)

Component store corruption is the usual culprit when there are problems with Admin access to items or updates in the store.

You might try running the DISM repair commend as outlined in the link below from an elevated command prompt and see what it says.
