Hey,

Been having trouble this morning with my network drive in my Home Server. It normally connects fine at startup and it all of a sudden wont work.

I have isolated it to my Desktop as i can connect off of my Laptop fine.

The name of my server is Homeserver(192.168.1.77) and I have shared a folder inside the drive rather than the drive its self. This image shows how I'm trying to connect to the folder. ConnectionSettings.png
And this is the error I'm getting ShareError.png

I have tried:
Resetting ip / dns flushing etc.
sfc /scannow (Says everything is fine.)

Also tried disabling norton on my desktop but still wont work

I'm running out of ideas. Anyone Please :D

Thanks in advance
Bradley

Since you mentioned Norton it all makes sense now. Disabling Norton all to often won't make a difference, uninstalling it completely using the uninstall tool is the only way. Besides Norton I see no reason for this drive to suddenly become inaccessible.

Would you say to contact their support then? I do have norton installed on my other 2 laptops and they can access it perfectly.

Norton can sometimes create access rules out of the blue. It's hard to say what is the best course of action from my end but if it was me I would uninstall Norton using the uninstall tool on the machine that has the drive attached.

I really can't think of many other reason's why a drive would suddenly become inaccessible, unless something changed access to the main Users folder which is shared out be default.

Maybe try disconnecting the SATA cable on the drive and reconnect, they get loose and just don't connect sometimes.

Besides that I don't see how the access rules for the drive could have changed on their own.

It still seems they are having trouble seeing each other.

Have you tried rebooting the machines or resetting the router? I doubt Norton had anything to do with your issue. Somehow the network got hosed. I occasionally have problems accessing a share on my network and usually rebooting the machine that has the share fixes the issue.

Well no shortage of opinions about Norton, I'd blame Norton or any other third party A/V software over anything else, but you know, 5 years of experience at the Windows 7 forum where you see constant problems caused by third party Anti Virus's tends to change your overall perception about these things.

I'd take a look at the Security settings on this drive, although they shouldn't be changing by themselves, as long as there is a third party A/V involved anything can happen.

Ideally for anything on this drive to be sharable you would have the Users folder on this drive's security settings set to share with Everyone like in the link.

Read carefully the link I posted, what you are showing is the Sharing tab settings, My link shows the Security tab for the Users folder settings required, you do this through the Users folder, not the root of the drive.

Ok, once again, you are doing this per which ever folder you are trying to share and it doesn't work that way. You need to make these adjustments from the main Users folder. If the Users folder isn't shared then none of the folders inside the Users folder will be shareable.

As in Z:>Users folder, by default the shares are controlled from there.

Can you show me the actual drive's security settings?

It's best to set this up through the main Users folder because sharing the root of the drive can be a security risk.
