Windows 8.1 Download Speed Issue

I am new to this board but I am at a loss with my issue. I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7 and am having problems with downloads. This may or may not be a JDownloader issue but maybe you can help none the less. Ever since the upgrade I have not reached my previous download speeds. I am using JDownloader. I have a 40 mbps fiber internet connection. I am getting 34.8 according to SpeedTest. Before the upgrade I was getting 3-4 mbps download speeds but now I am only getting up to 700 to 800 kbps download speeds. One thing I have noticed is that the more files I am downloading, the faster the speeds. 3 simultaneous downloads reaches up to 800 kbps total but one download will only reach 400 to 500 kbps. I have adjusted the Connections and the Simultaneous downloads to no avail. Whether it may be JDownloader or a Windows issue I would be thankful for any advice pointing me in the right direction! Thanks!

I have a Dell N7010 with DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card. The current driver version is 5.60.48.18 which looks like the most current driver. There is no Windows 8 support or drivers for my PC. I have the latest version of JDownloader and have installed and uninstalled multiple times to no avail. It is looking like an issue with Windows 8 on my PC. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You can check MS guide on troubleshooting connection problems : Wired and wireless network connection problems in Windows - Microsoft Windows Help

Specific help on your card, which seems to have trouble under win 8 (some solutions are included there):
Windows 8 Driver for Dell Wireless 1510 N WLAN MiniCard ( 4322 ) - slow network connection
Is DELL 1510 N WLAN Mini card compatible with W8? - Networking, Internet, Wireless Forum - Networking, Internet, Wireless - Dell Community

If those still don't help :

Go to your network card configuration. In the protocols uncheck everything except IPv4 (especially QoS, it sometimes doesn't play nice with wireless).

In a command prompt (as administrator), flush your dns : IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

If that doesn't help, still in a command prompt, type : netsh interface tcp show global
Take a screenshot and post it here.

I tried both unchecking the protocols and the IPCONFIG flush. Neither helped but I have included the results from the show global in the command prompt. Hopefully this is helpful. Thanks!

C:\Windows\system32>netsh interface tcp show globalQuerying active state...

From the link that oneeyed posted.

I seemed to have found a solution to my issue. I was able to find a Win 7 driver that solves my Windows 8 driver issue with very slow and intermittent/dropped WiFi connections for the Dell 1510 N WLAN (Broadcom 4322) WiFi adapter.

The driver I found is: Network_Driver_WD35F_WN_5.100.235.12_A37I found it here:
Driver Details | Dell US

The the auto installer will not run without error. However, it will allow you to extract the files from the driverpackage to a directory of your choice. Then you can point Windows 8 driver change/update utility ('Have Disk') to that directory - 'Drivers/Win7/WL' and select the bcmwl6.inf to install a driver (Broadcom v.5.100.235.12)I hope this helps others.

Have you tried anything included in my links about your driver ? If there's a driver incompatibility, messing with your settings might be useless or even worsen your problems.

Anyway... If you've checked them you can try (command prompt as admin) :

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh int tcp set global chimney=automatic

I've double checked the Dell website and it states that driver is not compatible with my computer. The driver I have is the one that the website states is compatible with my system. As far as the tcp global settings and I have changed the heuristics, tuning, and the chimney and it still has not improved. I'm getting 400 kbps with a 40 mbps fiber connection. I'm still showing 33 mbps per the speedtest website. I've scoured the links in your post and have not found any fixes yet. I'm not sure what else to do here other than revert back to Windows 7 unless there are any other suggestions?

I haven't read this thoroughly but the latest driver seems to be located here : Driver Details | Dell US

If it gives error installing try the following - right click the installer select properties/compatibility/run this program in compatibility for w7 & run as an administrator - leave the rest blank and then apply - restart the driver installer.

Worth a try but for mind its a software problem, and if u follow my previous links and contact them about the Jdownloader OR get another one u might be in business.

Thanks for all of the help so far! The driver for the Inspiron N7010 is version 5.60.48.18 according to the compatibility section on the dell website. I am assuming that the driver has to match the computer model correct? Can you use another driver for the same NIC board in a different PC? Otherwise, I do appreciate the suggestions thus far and am still taking suggestions on my issue.

Why not just follow the directions from the link which have already been proven to work and which I have already posted the directions for? You just extract the drivers to a directory of your choice, if you are looking for suggestions this is the one that works.

Okay, I apologize it has been a while but here is an update on my issue that is unresolved. I took your advice and upgraded the driver to no avail. I even went as far as to install a DW1520 Wireless N WLAN Half-Mini Card on my device in the hopes it would increase the speed. There has been no change. I have upgraded to driver 5.60.48.18 which indicates it is the most current driver for the DW 1520 on the Dell N7010. I recently replaced my router as well which needed to be done anyway. I now have the Asus NT-56u router. I am still getting download speeds maxing out at 800 kb/s with a 40/10 meg down/up fiber plan. I was getting 4 mb/s download speed before upgrading to Windows 8.1. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking it is about time to give up on Windows 8 and revert to Windows 7. Seems to be a lot of unresolved issues in Windows 8. Thanks for all the help!
