Unable to share internet connection via ethernet cable

Hello,
I have been having issues with sharing my internet connection via an ethernet cable. I read online that there is the ability to 'share' your internet connection. I have learned how to do this, but it doesnt work for me. I tried connecting my laptop. I went through everything and I was able to get the connection (it showed the LAN connectivity icon) however, there was the little yellow triangle next to it. I waited but it won't connect. What I am trying to do with this is be able to play multiplayer on computer games with other computers on my LAN. I also tried to connect my XBox 360 with this, but it doesnt have an internet connection. Any help I would appreciate.

Things to keep in mind

The only way I could get a good internet service was through my cell phone service provider, so I get my internet connection through my phone via USB tethering

All of the computers I am trying this on have Windows 8 Pro, except for one

You really haven't described how you have your multiple computers setup to to share a single internet service connection. For example, are you using a router that has 2 ethernet cables plugging into it and you are attempting to share the same internet service?

My apoligies,
I am realy trying a little bit of everything with this. I first attempted it with the ethernet cord going directly to a computer. So I would have the computer that I was going to share with connected to the computer that will be 'sending' the shared connection with the ethernet cable. I also tried connecting my XBox 360 using the same tecnique- ethernet cable going directly to device. And lastly, I tried connecting the ethernet to a wireless router, which also has 4 spots for other ethernet devices. So the connection would go from the computer hosting the share to the wireless router, where I attempted a WIFI connection. *I was able to get through to XBox Live using the last technique, though gameplay was laggy. Also, with the WIFI router technique, i connected my latop and got the network connection, unable to go online.
If thats what you wanted to know, otherwise, let me know if you need to know more :)

Hi again Rbunning,

OK, I'm almost getting it (I think) but I still cannot completely understand your configuration; however, that may be my issue because I don't have an xbox thrown into the mix most times; however, given there are better minds that mine that can possibly understand and respond to your issue (now that it is somewhat more clear), I'm going to ask others to step in because I don't want to put you through any needless effort.
Good luck.

I am a little confused right now. I tried it two meathods:

1. I had a CAT5 go from the computer I was using to share the connection, right into the ethernet port of my computer, (the same with the XBox, just not at the same time). On both my computer and the XBox, they saw the network (when I tried it), but could not connect to the internet.

2. I tried connecting a CAT5 from the computer I was using to share the connection, into a wireless router's 'Internet' port. From there I tried connecting my XBox *and laptop* to the wireless network, just not at the same time. (Same instance as before, saw the network, but couldnt connect to the internet).

I hope I explained things better, let me know of things you may be wondering :)
