USB network dongle driver failing on one Win8 pc

I've been struggling all weekend with a USB network dongle and now I seek some professional help..

As mentioned I have a USB network dongle that I use as a second network card. On my stationary pc it installed the driver automatically when plugged into the USB-port and it works perfectly. When I plug it into my laptop it also installs the driver automatically but.. the driver doesn't work and I have an exclamation mark saying the driver isn't working properly. I have tried reinstalling the driver countless times - no luck.

Both machines run the same version of Windows 8. What can I do?

EDIT: It's a Bluetooth device.

Automatic driver installations do not always work and there could be differences in hardware to account for that so why don't you start by providing the specs for the laptop that doesn't work. And BTW, I'm surprised your laptop doesn't already have inherent wifi capabilities as most laptops do. You'l also need to provide the specific make/model of you blue-tooth device and tell us if it came with any additional software.

Ok, thanks for that. So, just for kicks, have you tried disabling your inherent laptop wifi card when attempting to use that dongle? Seems like there could be some sort of conflict but I'd like to see that ruled out as an issue.

I just tried to disable the inherent wifi card but it didn't work. It tells me the device ( the USB device)failed to start (code 10)

Did you try to disable it with the dongle plugged in? If so, remove the dongle and try again. Also, did the dongle come with any driver software? If so, did you try to use it because all you stated is you plugged it in and the drivers were auto installed.

Sorry, the USB device did not come with any software. I have tried both disabling the wireless network with and without the dongle plugged in but I can only see it under Devices and Device Manager when it is plugged in and it still says it won't start.

At this point, I am not interested in the dongle being seen or not. Take the dongle out and test the inherent card. Does your wifi work? If so, can you disable it in device manager?

Hi again McLovin,

I think I just realized that I am not the right person to help you with your issue. I made this decision primarily because I do not have any exposure to blue-tooth technology in general so I may have given you some unnecessary steps to try. With that said, my advice is to wait for someone with more experience in that area to see if they can help you. Good luck.
