Delay when opening Network and Sharing Center

I recently got this problem that I have to wait like 2 secs to open Network and Sharing Center from the system tray. This is always opened immediately before. Note that I got an SSD but I think even with an HDD this should still can be opened immediately too.

How to get rid of this problem without resorting to re-install the Windows itself?

What programs have you installed recently that have a Tray Icon? Every recent program and their mothers and aunts and uncles are forcing a system tray iCon, Outlook, Onenote, Quicktime, not to mention iCloud and things like Google Drive. All of them access the net, so they may be interfering.

Just for the record, I just noticed that I now have that problem as well. I have not added any programs recently and the only thing I have done is downloaded and installed the most recent batch of Windows Updates. This delay happens whether I'm connected to the internet or not connected. Also, my PC is clean as a whistle so no chance of any malware at work here. However, since this is not a big issue for me, I will work on it at my leisure but I just thought I'd give you an FYI anyway.

Update: I have found that the slow response appears to generate this log which indicates an unidentified session could not be started. Further investigation reveals that others have reported this log appearing sometime around 9/18/2013. So, I'm at my leisure right now and I'm going to back out all Win Updates (back to August) just to see if that fixes the issue.

Update: Sorry I forgot to post the dang log but that will have to wait a bit because I'm backing the Windows Updates out right now.

No issues noticed on my 8.1 laptop.

Update: No luck on the Win Updates roll-back. went all the way back to June. and no, I don't use system restore points but thank you for thinking about suggesting that...

This may be just sheer coincidence, and if so, I apologize for the interruption, so please continue assisting the OP and I will just report my personal findings when my issue is solved. Good luck.

They were fine before, but because I have an issue with a certain game on Win 8 I reverted back to Win 7 but on a second thought, I revert back again to Win 8 and then after fully updates all, this problem problem happened.

Just for your edification, I'm doing a repair install right now. Again, no biggie for me because I can recover from a backup System Image in well less than 10 minutes....

OK, the repair install fixed the slowness issue and it worked perfectly as identified in Brink's great tutorial (thanks Brink).

I also ran sfc /scannow and it came back clean; however, I'm thinking I should have done that before the repair install just to make sure the slowness wasn't due to something other than a bad update.

So, hi partogi, I need you to try this fix before you consider a repair install:

Please open up an elevated command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and let it run.

Once done, if all is well, stop there and report back. However, if errors or inconsistencies are reported, please type the following message in the same place "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes) to see if it will cleanup those errors. Finally, if you get everything repaired, re-test your slowness issue and let us know if that fixed it. However if the sfc run is clean, just stop and report back that it found no errors. Also, if that is the case, you may be following my footsteps thru a repair install.

So, can you do that for us and report back with your findings?

OK, then unfortunately I'm afraid we both "were" in the same position. Moreover, I am absolutely certain that my issue was caused by a recent batch of Windows Updates that appear to have only affected "some" computers, and, in this case, it looks like "mine and yours" were included in that "some."

However, in my case, I decided not to try and reinstall all 60 updates until the faulting KB was found because that would require (IMHO) the updates to be reinstalled from earliest to latest (in proper succession) and trying to determine the actual release dates is a real pain! Yes, I am aware of where to go and how to search for those dates; however, it would be much easier if one of our fellow forum members would post a screenshot similar to this (I'm using 8.1 Preview right now):



so one could start from the earliest and move forward to the latest updates, and stopping periodically to test. However, even this method is not fool-proof; in that, some KBs are not uninstallable, so how would one go about backing one of them out gracefully?

So, with all things considered, I decided to "bite the bullet" and do a clean install Windows 8.1 RTM and permanently activate it. Now, at least I can say that "I have beat the rush to upgrade." Also, before anyone would ask any questions about "how I did that without an MSDN or Technet subscription?", I can only say that several work-arounds are required and it may be too complexed (at least) for me to explain in understandable English; however, I'm sure all the tech-savys here understand the complexities involved.

Anyway, since I am now officially on Windows 8.1, I can't help you anymore with your issue but my advice to you at this point is to just wait until next week and do the free upgrade via the Windows store and that should fix your issue.

You have a LOT of stuff running in your tray. I never let the Tray hide the icons like that, I like to have them all showing so I know exactly what it running. I have installed at least 6 programs in the last year that forced an icon down there, some of them I need but most of them I do not need. I see Daemon Tools running, you don't really need to have the tray down there unless you mount and demount a lot of images. You can shut off Skype too, it's better to leave it in an Off state until you need it. If you use it all the time, then leave it on and then quit the app when you are done. Actually my guess is, shut off SKYPE and then open the Network Connections again. I think Daemon Tools runs some network services too, checjing for updates, shut off automatic updates. Shut off automatic updates for anything running there..

I have eleven things running down there as it is, but they are all for Remotes which I access through my iPhone, Remote Mouse, VLC Streamer, Hipporemote, Windows 8 WiFiSendServer for a Windows 8 Remote Mouse I just got. But none of these access my Internet, only my Lan.

Also, you said you updated everything after reverting back to 8, try going back one version on Skype, see if that helps. Skype is the only thing that runs constantly through the Internet.

So, you followed in my footsteps; eh? I think that was a much better choice than trying to find that offending Windows Update and thanks for confirming your success as well. Now, we're both happy campers again!
