Hi All!
I'm relatively new here and I have a very annoying problem with my new laptop that, (unfortunately), runs the despicable OS, Windows Hate....oops, I mean '8'. I'm the ONLY user, the owner AND Administrator of my laptop, but I'm denied access to my own files!! I'm only a casual user, meaning I use my PC for "fun stuff"...i.e. writing & reading emails; playing games & searching the internet for things that interest me. I don't have anything on my PC that has to be "guarded" from others, as NO ONE ELSE uses my PC. That said, I should be able to access EVERYTHING on my PC, but the paranoid screwballs at Micro$oft have set up the most confounding OS, & I'm repeatedly denied accessing things like: Program Files, Pictures (even though I'm the one who put them there!!), Properties, etc. etc. I know I'm not the only one who's been confronted with these problems, as I've read the same things repeated on sites in the many places I've visited in my attempt to figure out how to break the chains that Micro$oft has put on MY PC. Does anyone know how to change the settings so I can access my own stuff??? I'm really tired of fighting with a %&#@ machine about this!!! I've tried using the "knowledge base" at M$, but the site is WAY too technical for a casual user like me. I don't understand why MY computer is given the authority to DENY ME access to stuff I entered myself. When I couldn't view my OWN Pictures, (that I put here!!!), I knew I was dealing with a mean animal! Will someone please tell me how I can use my own PC the way I want to...like the "good old days" of XP & even Vista HP? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions...I'm really frustrated about this...especially since EVERYTHING on my PC was put here BY ME!!!!!

Gratefully,
DogPal :)

Hi DogPal. I'm kinda new too, so I'll try my best.
To me, this definitely looks like a virus or malware. A normal system isn't supposed to behave like this. Do you have an antivirus installed? If not, you can try AVG or avast!, both of which are free. Run a full scan (including boot scan) and see if anything pops up. If they don't solve your problem, try MalwareBytes too. It is also free.
Good Luck :thumb:

Dog pal, it may help to go into the C:>Users folder, right click to properties then open up the Security tab, highlight the (your namePC/User) credential, click the edit button, then add the check marks for full control and modify, hit apply etc. and see if it helps.

Or maybe I should first ask if you are showing up with full Admin permissions at the C:>Users folder Security tab like in the picture.

Hi Friends!
Thanks for the 2 suggestions...to 'chev65'...I'll be sure to give your idea a try as soon as I return to that Laptop. I've been using my other laptop that runs Vista HP, as the frustration with the horrid '8' was getting to me! To 'sam97'...I have "TrendMicro Titanium Maximum Security" installed as my Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam/Anti-Malware program, and I use Windows Firewall to block everything else. I also ran MalwareBytes, (which I only use as needed...it's part of my maintenance regimen that I do monthly), this past Monday, & everything came back clean. I appreciate the suggestion, though, as there are some brave(?) folks who throw caution to the wind and don't use any protection. I could NEVER do that, as I tend to be on the cautious side. I don't trust ANY website, download, program etc., so installing my TrendMicro is always the first install I make when I get a new PC. I've been using TrendMicro since 1999, (their AV program was called 'PC-Cillin' back then), and I've always been well-protected...but, thanks for checking!
Please keep the suggestions coming, and I'll be sure to let you know, 'chev65', if your plan works!
Gratefully,
DogPal :)
