Why did my dad's laptop show up under "This PC" on my PC?

The other day I said to my dad that I would update his laptop to 8.1 and today I finally got around to doing it. On my PC, I am not a member of any Homegroups as I only own one computer so I don't need that feature. I took my dad's laptop, connected it to my wi-fi network and updated it to 8.1. I removed the laptop from the default Homegroup as my dad doesn't use that feature either and then I turned the laptop off.

When I went back to my PC, his laptop was showing up in File Explorer on my desktop under "This PC". I right-clicked and chose "Remove this device", but it didn't disappear until I rebooted my system.

Anyone know why this would happen? I've never had another computer that's connected to my wi-fi network show up under "Computer" in File Explorer in Windows 8, but this is the first time I've had 2 Windows 8.1 machines connected to the same wi-fi network.

Hi djsigma,

That is odd to say the least. Unfortunately, I don't have your exact configuration for comparison (8.1 laptop and 8.0 wired); however, I can offer a few screenshots of my 8.1 laptop setup to see if you remember any setup differences that might have caused your issue:

Good luck!

Thanks mate. I've given him the laptop back now, but next time I have a look at it I'll check those settings.
