I'm denied access to my own files on my own computer in 8

Hello!
I'm new here, so I hope I don't mess-up too badly! Anyway, I'm running Windows 8, (unfortunately), & I can't access certain files even though I'm the only one who uses this laptop & I'm also the Administrator. I tried numerous times to allow file sharing & change what I thought I should, but I kept getting red-lettered statements saying that I'm not allowed to make such changes. I really hate Windows 8!! Please tell me what steps to take so I can get to the files I need. There's no reason why I should be denied access to do anything when it's my own computer! :mad:Thanks in advance for your help!
Gratefully,
DogPal :)

Not much help but I agree, my short experience with 8, the security is way overboard especially for a personal use computer OS.

Maybe create another Administrator account and see if it works.

Hi again
Thanks for the responses.
I need to get info for my "Desktop Calendar" program. I just installed it on this new system as my Windows 7 laptop crashed. Anyway, I tried to open Program Data (I think), but when I right-clicked I was stopped immediately. There was a message box that said I have no access to this file...blah blah. So I tried to change the way files are shared. Then I was told I wasn't allowed to TRY to change the way the file is shared!!! It's MY computer...what kind of paranoid goofball set up Windows 8 anyway??? I don't even bother going to Microsoft's "support", as I can't understand what they're saying. I'm not a computer whiz...I just browse, play games & send & receive email. The computer is set up with me as Administrator. I thought that would be enough, but I can't open "Documents". "Program Data" & I'm sure lots of other files. I got so frustrated after 1 hour & 40 minutes of vain attempts to adjust the sharing issue that I gave up and closed the lid. I hate it when I have to argue with a machine, especially when the machine always wins. I don't know how to do "screen shots" or I'd gladly submit them. Any ideas or other instructions are GREATLY appreciated. Maybe if someone could tell me how their settings are, (if they can access all their files, that is), I could try to make my settings the same as theirs. Right now I'm annoyed and "hating 8" more than ever!! I also have a "haunted cursor" issue that's plaguing my system as well. The cursor flies all over the place & highlights text I've written, deletes parts of emails, clicks on areas that I'm not even pointing to...it's just a giant mess! I'm going to post about the cursor issue tomorrow...I've had it with "8" for today. Thanks again for your replies. If anyone has ideas please post before I lose the few marbles I have left!!!
Gratefully,
DogPal

If no malware is detected, Set UAC to lover stage (I set mine to minimum) and can "Take Ownership" on those folders or files.

I'm also the Administrator

Unless you have gone to the trouble to both UNHIDE the default Administrator account and then, login using that, you are NOT the Administrator. Starting with Win7, MS change the account defaults so that when you create an account, you are a member of the Administrator group, but you still need elevated rights to do some things.

Don't feel bad -- this "I'm the Administrator" is a common misconception.

You might find completely disabling UAC will help. An added bonus is the "apps" won't run.

Hello Friends!
Thanks to everyone who posted in response to my problem. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who "Hates 8". As they say, misery loves company! Anyway, after reading your suggestions, I thought I'd try the post that I understood, (and it also seemed like the best way to make sure there were no underlying problems), so I took "Wullail's" idea and ran MalwareBytes. I don't know what the results mean, and since I don't know if I'm allowed to post the results here, I thought I'd give a general answer. If it's OK (and safe) for me to post the results please let me know. I can say that it did NOT find any malware, only Registry Key things it picked up (12 items), as well as 2 Folders. I don't know why these items were found "questionable" and I don't know if I should delete them or leave them.
I'd be glad to have your advice about posting the results. As far as the other suggestions, I wouldn't know where to begin to make changes to the User Account Control, nor how to change ANYTHING. At this point I'm actually scared of this evil machine...I fear that if I change the wrong thing I won't be able to do the things I'm able to do now. You'd think that after using computers since 1999 I'd be more confident, but this horrible OS has me thinking that IT is the boss of ME instead of the other way around!! I'm afraid to "annoy" it, as it just might not let me go on-line or play games, etc., etc. Oh, how I miss the halcyon days of Windows XP!!!! If it's OK to post my MBAM results please post and I'll paste them right away. Now I'm going to post about the "haunted cursor" issue that is also a thorn in my side. Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it.
Gratefully,
DogPal

Why cant people on these forums talk in plain English? What is UAC? Don't they realize that if a person comes to a forum like this they probably don't know all of these computer terms?

Then someone says "Unless you have gone to the trouble to both UNHIDE the default Administrator account and then, login using that, you are NOT the Administrator. " HOW do you do that? Everyone here seems to just assume that people will know the way to do these things.

This basically means that the computer most likely marks it as something that can harm another file. I have the same problem and I asked someone about it. Even if you have full administrator commands, it won't let you access it because... the computer looks at it as possibly a trojan for another file, just not as serious - kind of. You really can't fix this. Try using another laptop with a different company because it's not possible to get past this. Oh, and for anyone else who says to try something else, it isn't going to work. That's why you kept on posting threads, because nothing you did was working. I looked at most of your threads because I was having the exact same problem. There isn't a way really... I have full administrator commands but NOTHING was working and I spent two wasted hours looking it up online until I asked someone who actually knew what he was dealing with. He gave me a quick answer and I knew it was right the moment I heard it.

Yes sometimes were busy people and don't have time to explain everything in detail. a quick goggle on any of these things or a search of these forum will come up with Tutorials of how to accomplish these things in detail Or Detailed explanations
