Best Way to Cool Your Router?

My router gets extremely hot at times and from my understanding, this can hinder its performance. What's the best method used to keep a router cool? I was thinking about using a laptop cooler but I have a small desk and want to maximize as much space on it possible.
Any thoughts?

Hmmm...what router do you have? I've never had to be concerned with cooling a router, just ambient air has been enough to keep it cool

I own a ASUS RT-N66U. I read online that heat can affect the performance of a router. I have tried everything that I can think of to counter these buffering issues. I figured maybe trying to keep the router cool may help.
I'm at wits end so Im willing to try anything at this point.

I have a Trellis WG-APR 108M 802.11n. It usually gets quite hot, but I never had problems.
