Hello, I've been stumped all day at work. Maybe one of you can help me with this issue.
Got a new Windows 8 Pro PC for work and I set it up today. It has two NIC cards, one for the Internet and one for an internal network. Both networks set up as private, the internal one listed as "unidentified."

One of the programs we use connects to a server using the internal network, but for some reason, it keeps wanting to only use the Internet, causing it to not work. I've come across this issue before with Windows 7 machines, and the solution's usually pretty simple. Just have to go into the control panel and re-prioritize the networks. No dice this time. It will work if I disable the Internet NIC, but as soon as I re-enable, it stops. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Now That's Odd - Have yout tried "Set up a new connection or Network"? See of you can set up the Local Area Network as a separate private network. If you can change that "Unidentified" status maybe it will work.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I was able to make the internal network a regular (identified) private one by giving it a gateway of another machine on the network, but it didn't make a difference. Still totally confused.

I figured it out! The only other option I could think of was swapping the cables and it surprisingly worked. I guess Windows is prioritizing the on-board NIC over the new one.
