Hello Guys,

I have a Windows 8 laptop. Windows 8 came pre-installed means it is Windows 8 Core/ OEM version, if that matters.

my other two laptops are Windows 7 laptop and Macbook Pro plus android handset.

sometimes all the three laptops are ON and operational and are connected through WiFi.

I have Remote Desktop Sharing enabled in my Windows 7 laptop
I have installed third party RDP server in my Macbook Pro
I have enabled Remote Desktop Sharing in Windows 8 laptop

Chart below shows kind of working sketch

I tried using both IP and netBIOS name. Ping works just fine in both ways.

Now, One thing is clear. something is wrong in Windows 8 settings or something.

assuming that Remote Support is allowed in here... is there something I am missing in Windows 8 configuration?

what is wrong, why isn't it working?

The core version of Windows 8 does not have the Remote Desktop Host which is required in order to accept incoming requests for remote desktop....

The PC that you wish to access remotely needs something called Remote Desktop Host, which is not available in the base, or core, version of Windows 8. This feature requires Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise. (If you are trying to connect to the base version of Windows 8, you will need to upgrade electronically to Windows 8 Pro or seek out a third party remote access solution like VNC. I recommend Windows 8 Pro.)

The PC that you are using to remotely access another PC needs the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) software,

aa haa, so that's it. Windows 8 base or core or oem version whatever, it does not have a Remote Desktop Host/Server.

Fair enough

Funny though, what is this setting doing in here .....

That is to enable remote assistance which isn't the same as remote desktop. Here is what you would see with Pro or Enterprise. Feel free to mark as solved. :)
