So last week I bought a new laptop, an HP Envy m6 with Windows 8 already installed in. It was working fine, till I came home today to find that my wi-fi adapter is turned off, no big deal I just went to networks and enabled it.

Now, it says I have internet connection to my wi-fi router, all five bars but whenever I use browers such as Chrome or IE it will not load.

Now I have an old computer, a Lenovo B560 that works perfectally fine. Chrome, and IE.

The problem is not that I don't have connection or limited, its the fact that my browsers are not loading/acting as if I do not have a problem.

I've called Microsoft, I've been through fourms but I am so lost. I'm told that it's my router but how can it be when my Windiws 7 Home-Premiun is fine, but why Windows 8 is not?

If I restart my router then my wireless says it is limited on my Windows 8, if I restart my Windows 8 I will have browser's for five minutes (techianlly 4 minutes and 35-55 seconds) and then it will shut off.

Please help

Hi, I know random internet connections can be frustrating so lets tackle the most common issues first, and then we'll troubleshoot.

Firstly is your laptop running on batteries only when you lose your connection?

If it is, plug in the power adapter and see if your connection stays or lasts longer.

It may be your power plan shutting down the wifi to save power, we can adjust that..

> If there is no difference then lets flush your network drivers.

make your way to device manager go to network adapters, find your wireless adapter and uninstall the drivers by right clicking it and select uninstall.

on the top of device manager you will see the action tab, click on action then select scan for hardware changes

windows will reload your wireless adapter

now connect to your wifi and re-enter your password.

See if your internet is stable now.

If not then in your system tray of your desktop you will find a battery symbol, click it once and select high performance option, now see if your internet stays connected

If not then we will begin troubleshooting your settings and hardware..

No, something is interfering with your OS

Do you have an antivirus program active and running? What brand?

Please do a quick scan of your system, and let us know if anything was found..

So, I have tried the deleteing of the wireless adapter, and then scanned it and it did not work. The battery is always on the high maintenece; I did check and it was clicked.

The computer did come with Nortorn Internet protector which I deleted/uninstalled thinking it might be blocking the browsers nothing.

I did the Launch HP Network Check and it says that there is a root cause; for some reaosn the browser is not reading that I have internet connection.

I Have HP G6 and there is a WiFi Enable/ Disable key on F12
When Wifi is ON, Key has a White LED ON
IF I accidentally hit the F12 key, the LED will turn Orange and no Wifi Connection anymore.

just saying....maybe you are overlooking this small thing

So I've let my Windows 8 computer just sit there for a good three days, and it's working! I'm not sure what happened, or how it happened but I have done the steps I needed on this thread and now my computer works!
Thank you so much!
