Ethernet & Wi-fi "Does not have a valid IP configuration"

Hi Everyone,

I bought a a Lenovo IdeaPad P400 Touch laptop last week, with Windows 8 64-bit OS. I went through the general setup and had the computer working in no time; wireless and Ethernet connections worked fine for a few days and then I began getting "Limited" connectivity errors on both the Wi-fi and Ethernet.
After the initial setup, I ran windows update and tried to install vmVare, then I realized this "Limited Connectivity" problem. After that, I uninstalled the vmware and all other software I had installed since I received the laptop but internet connectivity was not restored.

Nearly frustrated over this, I restored my laptop to its initial (factory setup) status and reinstalled the Windows 8 OS that the manufacturer stored on a built-in D drive, using the Lenovo OneKey Recovery process.
During the restoration process, I had to re run Windows setup (like a new computer). I had hoped this would reverse any issues I had with internet connectivity, but it did not work. In fact, Windows 8 could not connect to the internet during setup and I had to create a local account to finish the setup.

After completing the setup, I visited the windows 8 forums and tried using a recommended solution for re-setting tcp/ip (netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit), restarted my laptop but the problem still persists.

I even ran the IPResetAll app posted by Chev65 but got this screen shot instead:

Lets work on your ethernet first if it works then we can repeat for your wireless or visaversa which ever you prefer..

goto control panel find network adapters find the ethernet or wireless, and uninstall that driver

at the top click action tab, and choose scan for hardware changes

exit to desktop

retry internet, if you uninstalled wifi then it will ask you for wifi password..

Hi Brooklyn567,

I uninstalled wireless driver and did the scan as you instructed. I tried the wireless again and it asked for the network password, which I entered. Limited internet connection still: no internet access yet.

Are you connecting directly to a modem? You ip address does not resemble a router IP.

Is your modem or router very hot?

Have you turned it off at all since your problem strarted?

If not turn it off wait 15 seconds turn it back on and wait a minute or two, then try your internet again..

use only one network for now, either wireless or wired until we find the problem

The simple fix to this problem is just to restart (power cycle) the router. I've had this exact same problem (no valid ip config) twice and I just restarted the [DEL]modem[/DEL] router and fixed the issue. You said you've tried everything on your PC and nothing works. So, the problem is not your PC but the network you are trying to connect to. Have you tried connecting to other network?

Yes the 169 IP is what you get when Windows can't obtain a proper IP from the router, this is networking 101 that's for certain.

The reset file won't work unless the host file is working which it appears that it's not.

There is nothing coming from the router here or the machine just can't pick it up. If you are trying to connect wirelessly then disconnect the Ethernet as they both won't work together.

From the IPReset read out it appears as if the host file was messed up and refuses to allow access. Try going with either a refresh or a reset of the system.
