There is a setting to disable in the group policy editor, minimize the number of connections, under Administrative Templates, Network, Network Connections.

It may look like the Sony is using both connections but it's not, it's using the wired one.

The analogy that well if one machine is doing this then why isn't the other doesn't really work with computers.

In fact my own machine maintains a wired and wireless connection but the wireless only works if I unplug the wired connection.

You can be connected to both but the wired connection will win out every time.

If you really want the machine to use more than one connection you can try the connectify dispatch software, it still only chooses the best connection to use at any given time.

Connectify - Turn your PC into a Wi-Fi Hotspot and Get Faster Internet

There is also a Group Policy setting for using two connections but I'm not sure how it works. A while back I took the time to look up this policy just in case somebody wanted to try it.

Yes. I have the same situation as Chev, on a Dell laptop. Even through the docking station, it shows both wireless and ether as working, but only the Ethernet is, in fact, operational. Quite an advantage through a docking station, I disconnect and am , unbroken, back on wireless.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
to prevent any misunderstanding let me describe the situation in other terms.
i have an adsl wireless modem, both laptops connect to internet through this modem via wireless connection. some times when i need to transfer large amount of data between to laptops i connects these two by a ethernet cable. after connecting two laptop to each other sony still has internet connection but hp is disconnected!
also in notification area sony shows wireless icon connected with internet access but hp shows wired icon with red warning which says no internet access.
so i guess it is impossible for sony to access internet through hp! and also it doesn't seem to be normal and hp has a problem in configs!
