I keep getting an error message again and again saying "Windows has detected an IP address conflict".
The internet (DSL) cable goes directly to the back of my CPU without any other device such as a router.

What should I do?

restart your computer it should automatically reassign a new ip unless you manually selected it.
Are both computers in the same location home/business?

Do you have a fixed IP address or do you let the IP address get assigned when you boot up?

Thank you everyone, the problem is fixed now. We called the ISP and they sent a mechanic to repair our DSL cable, I asked him about this issue and he changed some network settings and I no longer get the error.

restart your computer it should automatically reassign a new ip unless you manually selected it.

I only have one computer.

or... restart (power cycle) your modem to fix the issue.
I do not have a modem in my house. The internet cable comes directly from the ISP to my CPU. (I suspect there is a common modem in our apartment for everyone.)

Do you have a fixed IP address or do you let the IP address get assigned when you boot up?
My IP is dynamic and changes every time I reconnect.
