help setting up a shared folder for file history

I need some help configuring file history. I want to have it store files on a shared folder in a local hard rive but I want that folder to be inaccessible to other computers on my home network.

Now its fairly easy to set up a shared folder on a local drive and store file history there but the problem is that other computers can see all my files. I tweaked the sharing permissions on my folder so I removed the 'Everyone' user and put in my user name (which is an admin) and set the permissions to full control. Despite setting the permissions to only my user account, other computers are still able to open the shared file history folder and view and edit its contents.

I can't disable file sharing all together because then it would defeat the purpose of what I am trying to do and also I have another computer on my network store its files on my computer through file history. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

This can be done but you need to create a Homegroup for your personal machine and the machine you need to share with, leave the other Workgroup machines out of this Homegroup.

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried homegroup but I run into the same problem of letting a computer which I share one specific folder, see other folders which I don't want it to see. Is there really a way to prevent a single shared folder from being opened while simultaneously granting access to other shared folders on that computer. Now that I think about it, it seems unlikely because the other computer already has the credentials to look through any shared folder on my computer.

Is there any other way to store file history on a local hard drive other than going about this through a shared network folder mess?

Btw, hidden shares also do not seem to work because file history can't see the hidden file.

Yes there are ways to make this work but once you go into the NTFS security tab permissions and add Everyone then this type of share system can't work because you overrode the settings using the Everyone entry.

It's important that all NTFS permissions be returned to default before hand.

Remember that the machine with restricted access needs to be left out of the Homegroup.
