metered connections

Hello

I read that driver installation requires this to be on and most likely one would forget to turn this on.
I also read that with metered on, downloads may be interrupted and it cannot be on with Ethernet connections.
I have a router and therefore use Ethernet cables from the router to the pc
Would this affect my laptop running wirelessly?

I have it off, and as of yet have not had any of the problems you mentioned. As to the WIFI question: this shouldn't be a problem. It is just that the network cable connection will be far faster then the WIFI, thus with the cable connected there should be no need for the WIFI.

the suggestion to have metered connection on ,is so auto updated for drivers and devices that don't need to be updated all the time ,will not auto download updates and use up your allotted monthly internet allowance .it does not mean you cant go to a support site and download drivers yourself , my ISP does not meter my amount of downloads there for i have it turned off
, ,so to avoid going over your allotment and causing extra charges turn on metered system , .

as for wired and wireless as long as you have a fast wireless device ,it will be close to the same as wired ,i just checked mine last night on speed test ,and got almost the same results on bot wired and wireless ,my wifi device a fast N300 tp link usb deveice

metered conections

Hello
I will keep mine off also knowing what you have both explained to me.
Until I read the mini caveat, I never experienced any issues with downloads, drivers and speed.
I just installed a very large printer download including Win 8 drivers without issue.
This is an incidental comment but instead of tediously updating printer drivers, I was able to install one comprehensive download which updated my printer's Ethernet setup and drivers etc. I love it when a company takes care to make it easy for consumers with only an average skill level like me. The uninstall is clean also.
Thank you for your help with metered conections.
Peter.

more metered connections

Hello again
I hope I am not splitting fine hairs but I found more metered settings. Although I do not have the M.S. account activated, I see two metered figures at the bottom of the attachment.
They seem to be defaulted in different ways. Is it wise to keep them that way if you are using the M.S. account which I am about to try?
Thanks again.
Peter

my take on this is you need not worry about the setting unless you are going to be charges extra by your inter service provider for going over you allotted download per month limit .are you on a metered acct .if yes ,leave it turned on ,if you are not metered then don't worry about the settings , the setting yo usee in sync your settings ,simply means you would use more of your allotted gigs /month to sync data to other device you own
