Hello all,

I bought a new laptiop HP 650. The wireless was working fine for couple of days until i believe it stopped working after falling into sleep mode according to the user. now, it connects to internet fine when it connects using a cable but with wifi connection, it says limited connection.i have reformatted the computer to factory default settings.
I have tried to run windows network diagnostics and the error it gives me is
Wi-fi doesnt have a valid IP Configuration..
What is the issue here.

The wireless network card is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.

it says the driver is up to date.

Please help me out .

Welcome to the forum gans07,

So this is a factory installation of Windows 8, complete with all the trial anti virus software's and endless bloatware which is guaranteed to cause problems.

First you should uninstall completely the trial version of which ever A/V software was preinstalled on this machine using the special uninstall tool. These trial A/V's tend to cause countless problems unless they are removed.

After that, if you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine it would be most helpful. :)

The ipconfig looks good and shows that you have a valid IP and should be connected, therefore something is blocking the connection.

Which A/V software did you remove?

Did you use the special uninstall tool for it?

You must run the uninstaller for Norton in order to remove it from your system, all A/V software's are famous for causing problems just like this one.

The second page has the link for the download.

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us...ect_pubweb&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1

You should also go into the Device Manager and disable both of these devices unless you are using them for something. You may need to go to the "View" tab and then click on "show hidden devices" in order to see them.

It shows you as connected, but no valid IP this time.

Have you tried to reset the router? You should use the reset button for this which should be on the side of the router.

You should also go to Windows update using a wired connection.

Just to make sure, after you reset the router, did you go back into the router's set up page to put back all the wireless info, SSID, security password etc.?

Did you try removing the older wireless profile for this connection then create a new one?

Besides that you might want to think about removing all the preinstalled bloatware from that system, Decrapifier is a good program for showing you which programs can be safely removed.

Wizzy, try running the sfc /scannow command in an elevated command prompt and see what it says.
