My new pc came yesterday
I did a little research and found that a i3 3220 ivybridge processor would fit the bill and not too expensive.
an asus P8H61-MX USB3 motherboard, windows 8 ready according to their website would again suffice and a 500 gb hdd would be more than ample for my modest needs.
Having gone that far I decided a case psu and dvd drive would be a good investment.
New wine in old bottles etc.
I found an online supplier who would supply this at an exceptional price.
So it arrived yesterday just before lunch, well packaged and undamaged.
I opened it up and the cheapish case looked ok.
Leaving my tea untouched, I quickly hooked up my monitor etc and put in the windows eight disk.
Well things were going too well up till now, the dvd drive began making a noise like a 1963 ford anglia with a dynamo bearing gone, and would not read at all.
Luckily I was able to butcher old pc and continue.
Got that all done and a quick phone call later it's validated and ready to rock.
At this point I popped the asus support disk into the drive, only to be met with a message, "asus support disk does not work with this operating system.
But anyway it's working, so after playing around I go to asus site and download all the updates I can and install them.
Everything seems ok now except the web connection, I am only getting less than 2 meg down as opposed to 13 in the old system.
So nothing ever goes smooth,
I downloaded lan, drivers, ethernet drivers from asus but didn't seem to help.
Sorry this is a bit garbled but wanting to get it posted before I go out in the hope of some suggestions when I return.
