My laptop isn't finding any networks all of a sudden. I've tried turning wireless on and off and resetting my router but I still cannot pick up a connection, not just mine but any network. Please help!

device manager goto control panel , system and security , under "system" you'll find device manager open it. Open the network adapters string and look for wireless adapter

Yep recognise atheros. I just wanted to make sure it was listed and didnt have a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Go back to device manager double click the adapter and under the driver tab choose the update driver tab. (im assuming you have the device hard wired to the internet :) ) If it tells you the drivers are up to date go here Drivers for Atheros AR5B97 and Windows 7 and download and install those drivers. (this will reset all your adapter settings and you can eliminate a hardware fault)

I just found this on another site (web user) somebody who fixed a similar issue turned out to be power saving settings , might be worth checking

OK after having a massive tidy-up on my frieds computer which is exactly the same model as yours and exactly 100% same problem and diagnosis, I noticed that the radio was actually coming on at bootup but flicking off when the perfomance saving settings kicked in low and behold if you you go into the acer performance settings, there is an option to turn wireless LAN on/off.

Fixed the issue. Done.

So I downloaded an updated for my wireless device but I don't know how to install it.

it should have an installer built in ie just double click . If not go back to device manager double click your adapter and go back to driver tab. click update driver but select "browse my computer for driver software" then "let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer" then just navigate to where you saved your drivers when you downloaded them :)

You could try a system restore to a point before your problem began. By any chance does you laptop have a physical switch for turning wifi off and on? Is your laptop still in warranty? If so, then talk to Gateway--unless a solution turns up.

I removed my wireless adapter and bought a usb wireless adapter. I installed it and I still can't pick up any networks. I am losing patience with my computer. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

OP, I take it that you normally see other wireless networks in your area, but if not, then you could try bypassing your router--going straight to the Internet using an Ethernet cable between your modem and computer.

Which third party Anti Virus software do you have installed on this machine?

Can you post the ipconfig/all from this machine?

Just type ipconfig/all into an elevated command prompt and use the snipping tool to frame the picture and save. :)
