Internet connection issues through LAN and WiFi

Hi all. I can't connect to my network by either lan or wifi. I have tried some basic things and some advanced (described below). WiFi connects through my phone but still no internet access.

Story: I recently upgraded my M17x R1 to W8 and was successfully able to install all drivers including nvidia drivers. Everything was running fine for just over a week. On tuesday I was donwloading some files when all of a sudden W8 crashed. On restart it wouldnt pass the boot screen so I unplugged my external hard drive and was able to reboot with success. I dont know why the external hard drive would interrupt the boot since it never did before. Once everything was running again I noticed a triangle on the LAN network icon so it automatically connected to WiFi. I didnt think much of it until I was not able to connect to internet at all.*

Things I've tried:
1. Reset router an modem numerous times.
2. Verified with my ISP that modem was online receiving internet and had no blocks. Once again reset router and modem twice.
3. Connected modem directly to laptop, still no internet.
4. Using Windows troubleshoot: Problem 1, unable to idintify network = fixed , then problem 2 it would say unable to connect with DNS server. After running troubleshoot again, says connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the internet is broken.
5. Using CMD propt: Tried ping of any website = failed.
6. Using CMD: Tried "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" = no luck.
8. Uninstalled Nvidia nforce 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter. Afrer restart W8 loads Nvidia nforce netwoking controller. Still no internet.
7. As a last resort, I recovered an image from 3 days prior since everything had been working fine until the crash. The recovery image even had a different anti-virus program. Recovery was successful however network connectivity was not. The network issues remain exactly the same as before the recovery.

Network adapters in device manager:
Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter
NvIDIA nForce Networking Controller

Side notes: The modem (RCA DCm425) is working because I still get cable throught on my tv and again, conmectivity to internet was verified through my ISP. I dont believe the router (Linksys E3000) is bad but I wouldn't know if either are good.

Laptop I'm using is a M17x R1, QX9300, Dual SLI 1GB 280m GTX, W8 Pro.

Please help. I dont know what else to try. I can provide whatever is needed to troubleshoot this problem. All recommendations are welcomed.

Have you tried running the sfc/scannow command?

A reset of Windows 8 might fix this problem but you would lose everything so back up before hand.

You might try turning off the machine and unplugging the power cord then bleed out all juice by holding down the start button for 10 seconds. Plug in and restart.
