I thought I would just post some of my findings here.
This happened with my old motherboard as well, but I just installed a new one the other day and the issue resurfaced. My other board was a P8Z77-V and the new one is a P8Z77-M Pro (I bought a new case and rebuilt my system).
When I load up Chrome and go to a site, the initial request would usually take considerable time to load. I would see always "Sending request" down in the bottom left of the status bar. It seemed to only ever be this first request though. Say for example I went to Facebook.com it would take sometimes 5-10 seconds for it to load. If I went to Facebook.com again after it had loaded it would almost be instantaneous.
I didn't know what was going on and I couldn't remember what I had done with the other system to get it to be faster.
So I proceeded to uninstall the LAN drivers so Windows could re-install them, made sure auto detect proxy in the internet settings was turned off, that kinda stuff. Nothing was helping.
I remember I was getting really angry the first time this happened because I had gone from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and all of a sudden I had this problem, but I couldn't remember what I had done to fix it.
I don't use any kind of third party antivirus software or anything like that and I have a quick system.
I went into the IPv4 settings for my LAN card and changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google's DNS) and rebooted the computer.
I load up Chrome now and pages seem to load instantly right off the hop. So, I don't know what it is with Windows 8 DNS but it seems to be slow unless you explicitly set it? I doubt it has anything to do with my router because I never had to do this with my Windows 7 machine, nor did I do it with my other currently connected Windows 7 HTPC machine which is just set up for DHCP attain IP/DNS info.
I find it frustrating that Microsoft can release a product that is somehow flawed in this small but very user experience affecting way.
But anyway if you were seeing a lot of that "Sending request" and getting pages loading very slowly, change your DNS addresses to something reliable like Google and it should speed it up.
