cannot connect to SMB share on windows 8 from my tv box

I am having a TV box (a satellite receiver capable of playing video files from a network share via Samba) tha I use to play video files. It worked 100% OK with Windows 7 being the "Video File Server". I upgraded to windows 7 and since then I cannot connect to the shared files anymore. I reinstalled windows 8 cleanly and created new shares for my video folders, but I still can't connect. However, I can connect to the win8-"server" from other PCs in my network and I can connect from my receiver to shares on other computers.

I tried deactivating smb 2/3 on the windows 8 machine, but this doesn't help either.

Can anybody help me figuring out how to connect to windows 8 from the receiver? Any tweaks in the registry or in the policies? Maybe there is a way to see a log of this error in win8 (no chance on the receiver, and I didn't find anything in the windows logs so far). Is it possible to install an alternative SMB-Server on win8? What did change in win8 that could have led to this problem?

It may help to change the lanman server parimeters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

The screen shots below should be helpful.

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

Is it a TrueCrypt volume?
Is the share on a removable drive?

I would try other lanman server settings, there are a few different settings that might work.

These are the settings that will have an effect with SMB servers but you may need to experiment a little.

@Silver: It is not a truecrypt volume or a removable drive, just regular harddisc folders

I went into gpedit.msc, into Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security options and touched every single switch that has to do with networking - no success! Is there another place where I could look? Or is there a chance to replace the SMB by an alternative software?
