new laptop w/windows 8 won't recognize wifi connects

I JUST bought my laptop three weeks ago. Two weeks ago, I started having issues where I would constantly lose my Internet connection (wifi). This is not happening with any other devices in my home, including my IPad and son's laptop. Now it's not recognizing Internet connections at all. Acer wants to charge me, says it a software issue, not hardware. Ugh!!! It's an Acer Aspire V5-571P. Help!!!

Hi, I know how frustrating this issue has been. I posted the same response over at the Acer Aspire forums, where it seems loads of people are having issues with 'limited' connectivity on their notebooks.
    Hope it helps

I did a PC refresh and after doing this a couple times to see the issue, I have finally pinpointed where the culprit lies.

After playing around with my router, uninstalling my anti virus and everything else in between, I found out that the QCA Wifi Driver 10.0.0.217 and the Atheros Blue Tooth Driver 8.0.000.0206 are the drivers that have the conflict. In other words, these two drivers are the ones that are making the connection 'limited'.
Everytime I reinstalled these after my PC refresh my computer internet connection became 'limited'. However, after my 3rd PC refresh I decided not to reinstall these drivers. Because of this decision I have had no further issues whatsoever with my internet connection dropping or becoming 'limited' at all. Furthermore, as soon as I boot my computer, the internet is connected, whereas before, with these drivers installed, this was not happening at all.
Clearly, there is a massive issue with these drivers. I had to - as computer illiterate that I am - figure this out for myself.
In conclusion, I will not be installing any new drivers for my Windows 8 Acer Aspire V3-771, until I get official confirmation from an Acer technician regarding these issues. Clearly there is some major problem as after days of research, I see that so many folk who have Windows 8 are the ones who are suffering from this major malfunction; I'm not sure if it is affecting any other models of Acers laptops/PCs, I just know, from what I had to learn that a lot of folk are having these issues. And that is not a good thing at all for the brand name of Acer.

Thank you, but this is only for Windows 7, I have Windows 8. For now, I have resolved the issues of my limited connectivity. I just wanted to see if the solution that I investigated for myself would help the OP

    It's not a software issue it's a bloatware issue.

I would uninstall every last piece of trial anti virus software that came preinstalled on your machine. Even A/V's you installed yourself can and will cause problems and do so on a daily basis around here.

I would also uninstall any thing that looks like bloatware which are basically advertisements that were forced into your OP system.

Hi, I'm assuming this could very well be the issue because I initially had uploaded the trial version of Avast and deleted McAfee which was pre-installed. I refreshed my laptop which of course deleted Avast and re-installed McAfee. It was fine for about a week but it is doing again (maybe because its a 60 day trial version). My question is, if I go ahead and purchase Avast (which is my preference), will that cure my problem? Thanks for your input!

You will want to uninstall McAfee using it's special uninstall tool.

Do not use either of those A/V's as they have both had problems reported about them with Windows 8.

The preinstalled Windows Defender is what you should use and it works perfectly fine I can assure you.

I spoke too soon - I am back to the same limited connectivity problem!

    Found solution:
    • unplug router
    • after all lights out, waited at least 10 seconds
    • plug in router

    My connectivity problem disappeared

My Roomate has a Toshiba Satellite c850 and it stopped recognizing our wireless router at home after her colleague used her computer to set up a dlink router in her workplace.

The process her computer went through on Friday may or may not have anything to do with the problem now, but we really want her wireless to work so she doesn't have to plug in directly to the router and make our connection slower.

    Can someone help???
