Limited wireless connection

I have read previous posts that say to uninstall 3rd party virus software/firewalls and this should solve the wireless connection dropping. Mine still drops after I have uninstalled McAfree. What else can I do? It usually drops several times a night!!! Really annoying.

Do drops occur on other computers connected like yours? Did your connection ever work properly with your machine under Win8 or, for example, Win7? I am assuming you are wireless. How does your signal strength look compared to others or pre Win8? Have you done Win8 updates. Apparently, one, or some, have been potentially linked to connectivity problems.

No, neither of my roommates have trouble connecting to the wireless router.

My previous computer worked just fine from this spot. The signal strength is showing all 5 bars. I even moved the computer right next to the router and it still dropped a couple of times in 30 min.

The first night I got my computer I did a lot of updates. The first night the internet never dropped. So maybe it is that. What do you suggest? Can I uninstall the updates?

You can install updates. This procedure should work at least almost identically in Win8: Uninstalling Updates in Windows 7. Be sure and use the link in the tutorial to the Windows Update History. As you will see, you cannot uninstall all Windows updates (those pertaining to system files) using the specified procedure. Hopefully, if you have an update problem then it won't be related to one of those. Also, you can return your entire system (including any updated system files) to an earlier state using system restore. The only problem with system restore is that it will uninstall any programs installed after the date of the restore point you select. Here is one way to do a system restore in Win8. You also can use the older "usual" procedures by going Control Panel > Recovery (and, of course, there are other ways of getting there).

You might try running the McAfee uninstall tool after you remove it from your system.
