Network Share Fustration!

Hi all

I'm trying to share a drive from one Windows 8 PC to another.

The share has been setup and works correctly in the root folder.

However if I try to create / edit any files in any subfolders I get an error saying I need permission. The share permission and NTFS permissions are set and double checked. If I use the permissions checker it gets correctly returned as full access.

I'm using a Microsoft account and not a local account, I have a feeling it could have something to do with this but would rather keep it this way if possible?

Anyone got any ideas as I'm usually pretty good at this stuff and I'm totally stumped....

Thanks.

Thanks znod, I was hoping not to need to take that option as it some how makes me nervous having the owner as an MS account rather than the local admin account.

If that works do you think its likely to carry on working if I put the ownership back?

You are very welcome. I see what you mean about the MS account. I hadn't thought about that. How about starting to use your local admin account for login--before taking ownership? I assume, then, you could login to the MS account only when you need to without problem. I found no reason to use the MS login on a daily basis. I am not completely sure about the implications of taking ownership under a MS login--including whether the change would likely carry on working if you "put the ownership back?" Is your local admin account definitely shown as the current owner? I think you implied "yes" above.

Thanks again.

That's the other problem I'm having, it simply will not let me connect with any other credentials when logged in with an MS account. Every time I try its says I have them incorrect when they are defiantly not. (or occasionally I'm already connected to the share with other credentials which I'm not either...)

Your advice has given progress though, I have created a new local account on both machines, taken ownership on the hosting machine with local user details and it lets me access perfectly from the second machine.

Now if only it will let me use these credentials for shares when connected with the MS account! Otherwise it is starting to look like taking the risk on moving ownership to the MS account; just feels like that decision might come back to bite me at some point in the future...

I am glad I helped in some way. I know about getting bitten eventually. So, be as careful as you can. Have you done any Googling on your issue?
