I have a desktop with Win7 as the OS. My internet provider is Time Warner and I have a router connected to my desktop. My laptop has Win 8 as the OS. Generally when I'm using my laptop I have access to the files on my desktop along with the printers connected to the desktop. But occasionally I'll make some changes to one computer or the other. Most of the times there is no problem, but other times I can't access one computer to the other. If I'm on my laptop, I still have an internet connection, but cannot access anything on my desktop or my desktop to my laptop. Sometimes I'll be messing with it for an hour or so trying different things and finally getting it to working again. If someone asked me what I did to fix it, I would say "I don't know as I did so many different things." In other words, I really don't know what the h--- I'm doing. So a good tutorial would help. Generally this forum has some excellent tutorials. If there is one that would help me, I would appreciate it if someone could direct me to it. Thanks.

This one, dealing specifically with Win8, might help. Be sure and see the link at the end of this introductory tutorial.
