USB Network with USB transfer cable ?

I like to setup a WIRED PAN over USB. Googled my life out of me, but all is about wireless. Still it obviously exists, if only Windows7/8 didn't come up with the MS drivers which doesn't give me other opportunities than "Easy Transfer" which is not what I want at all. But, to give an example, "Easy Computer Sync" already comes more close. This, with the same Belkin USB-USB (bridge) cable.

My question for a PAN is fairly explicit, because I don't want to have the normal Network Services around. For example, with a Bluetooth PAN I can do exactly what I want. Well, almost, because it's slow.
Here's the functionality I'm seeking for :

1. Have one PC which plays audio files, and have another where the files are stored. The files should be obtained over the PAN.
2. Have one "laptop" which is a remote to the audio playing PC and which over e.g. RDC controls the audio playing PC.

Ad 1.
This is actually NAS, but without LAN services.
This does not specifically require a PAN, if only peer to peer operation is allowed with "network shares". So, when the files on the "file server" can be addressed with shares or drive letters, this will do fine.

Ad 2.
This requires the PAN model because it needs TCP/IP to have an RDC like control.
Possibly other "RDC" means exist that avoid TCP/IP.

With the cable mentioned, neither can be done - not that I can find; if someone can hand me some general software which can do one of these tasks I'm 80% happy already (both 1 and 2 are completely independent needs).

If someone knows another cable including the (driver) software, it's no problem to obtain that.


Side info :

I am pretty sure that under XP this all worked. There though, this was not about "easy transfer" or anything - just peer to peer connection. Today there's no real objective in having a wired PAN - and so it seems that it's just not supported.

A better example might be the 1394 (Firewire) network, which just isn't supported anymore (since W7 I think).

It is about drivers allowing for the "network" situation, opposed to file transfer alone. Here too it can be seen that older drivers (or Win versions) offered the opportunity to choose between the both (driver) setups.

With the example of mentioned Easy Computer Sync - this is mighty close to my #1; it has a drag & drop facility for copying files, but, it won't allow dropping files on to another application (e.g. my audio software). From "old to new PC" it does though, but which implies (again) fysical copying *first*, which is not how I want it. So, all I say is : such "transfer" software (general enough to avoid chipset anomalies in the USB-USB cable concerned) might exist.

Of course I have been working with two PCs with fully working (network) services - being in the same workgroup and all, but for #2 I think it will need to show a network adapter at least. I suppose even TeamViewer will need something like that, but not sure.

Part of the problem *might* be that the standard driver for such a "transfer cable" can't be uninstalled. Well, it can, but it can't be removed, so when the cable is connected it will reinstall automatically (I didn't go as far as hacking things so it won't find the driver anymore).


If anyone can provide some help here I would be much obliged.
Please notice that questions like "why don't you use WiFi" or "why don't you connect your data via normal USB (disks)" are a bit useless, because my requirements are too specific and in the end formed about not wanting the LAN services to be there while normal remote control (#2) and actually NAS-like behaviour (#1) is needed. Just like a (Bluetooth) PAN would provide it ...
