I had a network of 3 Win 7 pc's. I added a Win 8 PCM to replace one of them. I can see all the pc's from each one and have file sharing enabled. When I try to share files even with public folders both os's ask for the network password. I know the network password but it is rejected both by Win 7 and Win 8 . Once when sending a print job to the already installed network printer from the Win 8 pc, it said it needed a driver from one of the Win 7 pc's and then went and got it with no problems. What am I doing Wrong? Any suggepstions

Did you turn off the password protected sharing option in the Advance Sharing settings? Did you also turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing.

Another thing that can cause this problem is if the time/date settings aren't the same on all networked machines.

I am experiencing the identical problem as that of this thread's originator. I have tried eack of the suggestions to made, but to no avail. In addition to this problem, I am having a problem with the time and date settings in Windows changing every time I log off. I have a dual operating system arrangement on my laptop, with Windows 8 occupying on partition on my HDD, and Ubuntu 12.10 occupying the other. Could this arrangement have something to do with the erratic time and date. Each time I shutdown the computer in Windows 8 to do something involving Linux, when I return to Windows, the time has jumped ahead 6 hours.

But of more importance is solving the problem with being unable to join my Homegroup. I have a vaste number of media files on 1 partition that I need to be able to share over my LAN via Homegroup. It is utterly impractical to put the on removable media, or place duplicates on the Windows partition.

But, as this thread's originator stated, each time I enter my Homegroup password, Windows 8 tells me the password is incorrect. I have to believe this is a problem with compatibility between Windows 7 and 8, rather than an issue with our configurations.

P;ease help.

When I was in the process of installing Ubuntu 12.10 on another partition on my computer,a warning appeared on my screen stating there was no timer connected to the APIC...that's all I was able to read before the screen changed and the warning was gone. Does this sound familiar, and might it be the reason Windows 8 time and date settings are different every time I start Windows 8? The Ubuntu OS on the other partition does not have a problem maintaining the correct time and date.

Try using the Administrator user name and password for the computer(s) you are trying to connect to. And, see this thread. It should apply almost exactly even though you are networking Win7/Win8 if you want/need to do more.
