OKAY.....
so i followed directions from utube video.... to set up ad hoc in windows 8 through cmd....first of all i messed it up instead of putting netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=ADHOCNETWORK key=password
i accidentaly used -dashes instead of = equal sign
it said it changed the properties of hosted network blah blah blah

so anyway ad hoc network didn't set up properly and now i only have limited connectivity through my wireless connection.... help please

how can i reverse, end, delete, get rid of ad hoc and get my regular wifi connection operating again???

What do you mean by "Limited Connectivity"? Is Windows allocating an APIPA 169.254.x.x IP address?

You could try repairing the TCP/IP stack:

Open a Command Prompt window and, at the prompt, type...

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

...and press Enter

(note the spaces in the command line). The original prompt will reappear, exit the Command Prompt window and reboot the PC.

Although not a solution to the basic problem, you could allocate fixed addresses (IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Servers) to the wireless connection.

To manually turn the Hosted Network off, enter the following:

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

To see the Hosted Network details (see Figure 3), including the MAC addresses of connected users, enter the following:

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

You can also try disabling the Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port in Device Manager.

You can also use the connectify software for setting up a hosted wireless network.
