Solved Problem sharing a file between Windows 8 and Vista

I have a home network running a PC and a laptop. The laptop operates on Vista and I recently upgraded the PC from XP to Windows 8. Before the upgrade I was able to quite successfully share a particular file between the PC and the laptop. I'm keen to share the same file again following the upgrade but so far I've had no luck and I find the Windows 8 help to be a touch confusing (that might be just me, of course), more aimed, it seems, at file sharing between computers running Windows 8.

I'd be very glad if somebody is able to offer any assistance or perhaps point me to some step by step instructions that might help resolve the problem.

Many thanks.

Thanks chev65, I had actually gone down the track of using the Share tab before but had found, after selecting the file I wanted to share, that the 'Share With' group was always greyed out, which, according to Hoyle, it shouldn't have been. Anyway, after a bit more perseverance it did finally do as it was told, my laptop recognised the shared file and we are now flying. Cheers, and thanks for your reply.
