How do I change my Network name from Public to Home under Windows 8?

Both computers were able to see each other last wk-end and sharing between both computers went just fine but this wk-end they can see each other but I cant share

I believe the problem might be because 1 is Public and the other is Home not sure about this if I am wrong someone please tell me what the double hockey sticks to do lol

The other thing you need to know is my other computer is a Windows 7 Pro computer and I am trying to make 8 see 7

Someone please help ty in advance

I been having the same problem in Windows 8. As what I have found is that in 8 you can't change Windows 8 to home. You can only change it to public or to private networks. Private is Home and Work network settings put together. An on Windows 7 I can see the Windows 8 computer but on 8 I can't see the 7 one the same issue your having. I been looking for a fix for hours and still haven't found one.

The only problem I have with my 8 pro, there is a big delay when trying to connect to desktop pc with 7 Ultimate. Any where from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, once that happens I can go through anything that's shared on the desktop with no problems...just a big delay.

What I didn't realize was that I hadn't joined a network aka home group. Once I joined, I can connect to any pc on the network with no problems at all now. No more delays.

You shouldn't have had to join a HomeGroup to connect to the computers.

You're NAS has an ip address what you need to do is input that ip address as an exception. Don't ask me how to do it as I don't know all the firewall types out there...

it's why I said to setup as Work, it will open the firewall for it.

If you click the Network Icon in the taskbar you'll get a ribbon listing your Network connections. Right click the one you want to change and then click the "Turn file sharing on or off" button that pops up. Turning file sharing ON should switch it from Public to Private. Private is the new Home.

What you need to do is change the Network adapter in your Firewall to Local Network and not Public Network...
