Realtek Wireless card picking up Wi-Fi but won't connect to anything..

I have managed to install my Realtek RTL8187 wireless adapter in Windows 8, and can see all the available wireless networks, but every time I try to connect to a network, I enter the password, it says connecting to network for around 10 seconds, then says 'Unable to connect to wireless network'

Pulling my hair out here, have never had this before. I've tried reinstalling the driver, turning my computer on/off and I am 100% I am entering the correct password. Any ideas??

Try disabling wireless network in Network sharing centre and reboot, when windows restarts it may find the generic drivers for you.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't even get the 'Turn Wireless Network' option.

I've noticed when I bring the selection of wireless devices list up, it says 'Wifi Off' at the top, but there is no option to turn it on anywhere. If I go to Settings, Computer Settings, the whole Wifi/Wireless tab is missing. Even though Windows know I have a Wireless card installed :S

Right click computer, manage, network adapter in Device Manger, do you see any yellow triangle against network adapters.

Nope, all seem installed fine.

Have Microsoft Network kernal Debug, Nvidia Nforce networking controller, Nvidia netowrking controller 2 and Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54MBs USB 2 netowrk adaptor. Nove have a triangle next to them

Go to Control panel, Network and Internet, Network sharing centre, click Change adapter settings, can you post the snip.

Right click the WiFi and click connect.

If I click my network it asks for the Network Security Key, but it can never connect to it

You have to right click on WiFi, then click connect/Disconnect(as in my snip).

I did do, that's what comes up when I click Connect/Disconnect

Are you using any third party security/antivirus program?

Nope, it was a fresh install of Windows 8

You need to burn a DVD if you haven't done it already, then do refresh with this Tutorial and see whether it resolves the problem:

Well, I didn't have Windows 8 on disc, so I had to re-install back to Windows 7, install the Wireless Networking Card and then download the Windows 8 ISO and burn it to disc. Then I updated so it kept my settings, and this time Windows 8 let me use the card for internet access.

Still have no idea why it suddenly works, it must have kept some settings from Windows 7, even though I used the exact same driver for bother versions of Windows.
