Hello,

I have just installed Windows 8 professional and i met with a big problem - my wi-fi in not working.
When i open my network tab, i can see only connections via cable, but no wi-fi. (like this: ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting )

I have Acer Aspire V3 771G. On windows 7, there were no problems with this.
MAYBE the problem could be, that MAYBE I have my wi-fi turned off. In windows 7 I could turn it off/on with FunctionKey+F3, but when i push that key now in W8, nothing happens. I have already tried installing some drivers too, but nothing works :/

Please, do you have any ideas?
I am desperate, OS without wifi is very useless, and if this wont solve, i will have to install windows 7 again :/

Thanx

Hello and welcome!

You can try installing Acer's utilities and other system drivers from Windows 7. Sometimes, certain laptops makers will require a driver to get Fn keys to work correctly. I believe I've seen this happen with Acer laptops predominately. This could get things working.

Also, go to Device Manger, (type in device manager at the Start Screen and click on Settings) and expand the Network adapters list, then post a screenshot (Start key and PrintScreen button) of it and attach it here. This will help in seeing if Windows is detecting your wifi card or not. If you will, then go to Network and Sharing Center (type that in at Start under Settings, on the right column in the search results) and click on Change adapter settings, take a screenshot of and attach it here. This will also show if a wifi card is listed or not. A tip, the screenshots get placed into a folder in your Pictures library under Screenshots.

What other drivers have you installed?

I will try to find and install all acer utilities. Hope that problem would be there, but i am not sure, because all other function keys are working good.

I have installed
Wireless LANBroadcomWireless LAN Driver5.100.82.112
, which is official driver from acer for my Windows 7 notebook.

I tried to install
Wireless LANAtherosWireless LAN Driver10.0.0.38
which is oficcial acer driver too, but the intstalation dont run on windows 8.

I have instaled Realtek driver too, but nothing happened.

Hope the information will help,
Thanx.

EDIT///
I have installed acer utilities and now i can turn on/off wi-fi via function keys. Till now, my wi-fi was turned off, i turn it on, but there is no difference. :/

EDIT///
Now I notticed that when i click on PC settings - wireless, I have there only airplane mode and bluetooth.

EDIT//
After 3 hours searching I finally find a good driver which my acer allowed me to install. Everything is OK now :)

If u have acer like me, just go to acer website and download official drivers... they are already there.
Or google for any atheros driver for W8, there should be no problem... When i was starting this thread, W8 wasnt officially released so it was hard to find drivers, but now it should be not.

my suggestion is that 1st install windows 7 while u are on 8, i.e format your pc then after u installed windows 7 and make sure that wifi connection is turned on fn+8 in windows 7 then install again windows 8, it works almost in all pc's
