Most likely, I'm going to bet they've locked me out of booting to my msata in this new hardware set. That guy probably has a win 7 model y580 and they take different bios. I had no clue from the beginning that using the m4 msata was going to be any different on the win 8 y580 then it had been on...
The install attempt did not boot after recleaning and redoing the gpt conversion. Reboots after initial install back into installation media. Drive does not show in boot list. removal of media results in no boot at all.
I have nothing to configure except Sata Controller Mode which is AHCI by...
Yep, I know. Thats why I'm so frustrated. This SHOULD have been simple from day 1. I simply have no clue what to do. I'm familiar with the threads in the lenovo forum as well as several others. I don't know why I am having trouble. I have been researching my y580 since I bought it a month ago.
Yes sir. Both dvd and usb read as EFI and boot through secureboot which is enabled.
Edit: Another tidbit of info. My usb thumbdrive of my oem recovery drive recognizes the windows 8 install allowing me to use it on my msata ssd. I recovered using the OEM windows 8 recovery drive but it still...
I have been following those threads. But I don't see any info for my situation. I'm doing a clean install with windows 8 install media. If my install won't boot, I don't see how migrating would do anything different for me.
I'm working with a Lenovo Y580 - 59359513. It comes with windows 8 preinstalled, uefi and all that other jazz. I've made my recovery usb drive, I've made my system image. The msata I installed is an m4 msata 256GB CT256M4SSD3. This drive is recognized in the bios. The disc shows in windows 8...
Secureboot has to be disabled for windows 7. Go into bios. If you don't see an option to disable it, look for an option to set an administrator password. I've heard some laptops won't let you disable secureboot until an admin password is set.
I'm sorry, I thought you would've already seen that guide. Otherwise I would've shared.
Unfortunately when you call support, they will weasel their way out of this argument by saying your warranty only covers hardware. They will tell you from day one there is no software warranty and this is...
Are my posts invisible? That tutorial *should work* but it doesn't. Its the most frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with. It will not recover to a drive that doesn't already have a windows 8 installation. A mod over at the lenovo community forum states this:
Despite what you've read, be prepared to be disappointed. One key recovery in windows 8 will NOT create recovery disks. They have removed this feature in favor of the windows 8 recovery drive creator. Whatever you read was accurate for windows 7 not windows 8. The built in windows 8 feature uses...
Lenovo recovery discs are $59, OP. But if you do get it, send me an iso. Also if you convince them to send you the recovery discs for postage only, I'd like to know how.
IMO there is not much to be considered bloatware on my windows 8 y580. Anyway, you will not have a working recovery disc with it. The recovery usb drive which requires a 16gb flash drive has the issue of not being able to recover to a blank drive. My research has led to my conclusion that lenovo...
Well I knew by shrinking my partition, it was going to break one key recovery. But I was under the faulty assumption restoring the original partition size would make OKR work again. Sooooooooooo.... Now I'm using the usb drive to reset. I'm hoping it will unbreak OKR.
Edit: Glad to see my OKR...
