    Major Issues After System Restore

Hello, Open an elevated cmd prompt and run sfc /scannow. If it reports that it cannot fix errors, please post the logfile C:\Windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log. It can sometimes help to run this multiple times, rebooting between each time.

    Permission to run a program

Hello, MilesAhead is correct here about moving the program to a different directory. Running a program in either of the Program Files directories requires Administrator privelidges, which triggers UAC. This will work for the majority of programs, but if a program needs elevation to run properly...

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

And it strikes again. Doing nothing out of the ordinary, OTHER than downloading and updating Trillian messenger, and deleting aMSN. This is driving me nuts.

Will do, Brink. I do have file history on, backing up from one internal drive to another automatically. I hope to catch it early enough so I can dig through event viewer and find out exactly what is causing this. Thank you for your continued help.

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

Hey guys, looks like it happened again. And I have no idea why. I've done nothing out of the ordinary, haven't installed the most recent Windows update yet and have not installed any new software. This is driving me nuts. It has to be something I'm doing since nobody else is having this issue...

Solved Cannot receive files sent from Bluetooth

I have it working now. I still do not have all of the options on my Bluetooth menu from the tray, but I am able to send files to my laptop without any issues now. It turns out that I had caused this problem myself by disabling "btmshellex" in my startup items. It was slowing my boot time, and I...

Solved Cannot receive files sent from Bluetooth

Hello all, I found a few threads that touched on the issue I'm having, but I found no solutions - so I apologize if I missed an answer to this question. The issue is that I am unable to send files (pictures, in particular) to my laptop via Bluetooth. I have verified that the problem is with my...

My laptop keeps freezing on my Windows 8 start screen

How did this turn out? Experiencing the same problem on my girlfriend's laptop. Attempted to run system file check from recovery disc command prompt, but was told that the process could not be started. Refreshed laptop - no change. Haven't had a chance to tinker with it after that failed, but I...

    Solved Partition Nightmare

Yep! Yes, I'm so happy that I had an image to fall back on... I've never been as paranoid about losing everything as I am now, and feel completely exposed without an image set aside. So far, so good with the new HDD! Thank you for all of your help, Brooklyn.

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

Ah! That makes more sense to me than Adobe going in there. I completely forgot about that.. the Windows update snuck in on me when I did a quick warm boot. This hasn't tweaked your settings, though?

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

Howdy! Well, it happened again. The only things I have done is create a system restore point, install Adobe Reader and also a UNIX to print program for work. Is it possible that Adobe altered these settings upon installation? I work with the folder ribbon up now, so it wouldn't be a slip of...

    Solved Partition Nightmare

Reporting Back: My hard drive failed a few days ago, and I had nothing to rely on except the untested image created with the Macrium Windows PE Rescue Disk. Long story short, I wrote the image back to my first HDD (which has been replaced) and IT WORKED! Everything was absolutely perfect! The...

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

Thanks for the reply, Brink! Unfortunately, I have not been able to check this out yet because my hard drive has since crashed. I just got my machine back up and running today, so we'll see if it goes off again and I'll double check myself :)

Show Known File Extensions Reverts to Default

Hello all, I hope this isn't a repeat thread - I didn't find any others that were having this issue. On the first day I received my laptop, I went into folder options and selected to show hidden folders and show known file extensions just as I have in 7, and Vista before that. It seems like...
