File explorer freezes when saving a document

Before you responded, I decided to bite the bullet and do a restore. I checked that all my files were backed up first, and it ran ok. I have been reinstalling apps and testing them one-by-one, and so far, so good. I will report back with an update.

File explorer freezes when saving a document

I ran sfc again: "...found corrupt files and successfully repaired them..." I then opened a PDF file in Acrobat and tried a "Save As..." Acrobat Reader (or more correctly, the save dialog) froze again and crashed Reader. Rebooted and tested again... Reader crashed. OpenOffice saved OK once, then...

File explorer freezes when saving a document

Thanks for hanging with me XweApunX. Here's an update: I uninstalled Norton 360 as you suggested, rebooted, and it still froze on saving. I had trouble reinstalling Norton, so I called them. While on the phone, they told me I can get free virus support because I am a Norton 1 Premier member...

File explorer freezes when saving a document

OK, I have run scannow 3 times. Each time it said there are corrupt files, but was not able to repair them. I have the log file if it's of any use to you--I can't open it (access denied). Will choosing "System Restore" from a week ago cause a loss of data? As for the install disk, how will it...

OK, I am running scannow. Just so you know, I purchased this PC from Best Buy and there is no Windows install CD.

File explorer freezes when saving a document

OK, here's a new twist... I just tried to download a fresh copy of Acrobat Reader (since that is also crashing when attempting to 'Save As' an open file, and guess what? As soon as the dialog opened to save the downloaded file, it froze exactly the same way. Took down Chrome as well. I'm...

File explorer freezes when saving a document

A couple of other things: I have been running LibreOffice and Norton together ever since the first issue without any problems until yesterday. Windows firewall is OFF and only Norton's is ON.

File explorer freezes when saving a document

I'll try the re-installs, but you should know that when this problem first occurred, we only had OpenOffice installed. I thought that it was the problem, so I uninstalled it and installed LibreOffice. That is ho I know that they have BOTH experienced the issue. Acrobat Reader, opening a PDF and...

File explorer freezes when saving a document

Thanks for your quick response AweUponX. To clarify a few things for you and others: LibreOffice runs on Windows I am not trying to save as a PDF from LibreOffice - I am just trying to save the document to disk. It happens with BOTH LibreOffice and OpenOffice, AND ALSO when saving an existing...

File explorer freezes when saving a document

This problem started "out of the blue" a couple of months ago. I had a tech look at it, and the only solution he came up with was to create a new user account, which worked. The problem has just come back. I can't find anything online to resolve it, so hopefully somebody here can help. When...
