All is good. Apparently the consumer preview does mark in some way that it's a valid upgrade path to the final Win 8. I downloaded the $39 upgrade and it installed and activated with no problem. I was only given the choices of a fresh install or keeping my files - no option to keep programs...

Hmmm - maybe it's a long shot, but any idea if HP can match my serial number to the OEM Win 7 product info? I have to say, I'm really shocked that the installer didn't give a bigger warning that it was wiping out Windows 7. If my memory is correct, the Win 7 preview from Vista did no such thing.

I looked at the bottom. The Microsoft sticker is worn off to the point where I would never be able to retrieve all of the numbers/characters in the product key. It's an HP, and their sticker is unscathed! There's no upgrade directly from the Win 8 preview, is there? I mean, the installation...

I'm sure this has been addressed here, but I couldn't figure out what search terms to use. I installed the Win8 consumer preview on a spare laptop quite a while ago and didn't read the fine print closely enough to realize that I would not be able to revert to Win 7 at the end of the trial. Win...

Ok, scratch one thing I said - I do get the photos if I pick "Files." However, I've got another one to add - what about searching for folders? I'm sure the notion is that searching for folders is considered passe or obsolete since you can find any content you want by searching for the file...

By the way, after installing Win 8, the first time I went to run Word Office 2007 acted like it was installing for the first time. I thought I might have to activate it, but when I tried to do so it said it was already activated (which it was in Win 7). Maybe something about this sequence...

Office 2007 key was purchased from the MS website (to activate a pre-installed trial version) and has been running fine on the machine for years. There are 17 installed updates for Office 2007 on the machine, including SP3. Also, if I try to browse to "update.microsoft.com" on my Win 7 laptop...

Windows 8 itself is updating fine using Windows Update. However, it doesn't provide updates for Office and other MS products. Where it says in the WU dialog box "You receive updates for:" it indicates "Windows Only." Going into Windows Update settings does not offer the "Microsoft Update"...
