    Anyone still running Vanilla 8?

Updates will potentially become a serious issue at some point, but I'm confident that by that time arrives - any remaining hardware/software issues that would affect me should have been rectified. I can also easily live without the changes in the upcoming Update 1 as I have quite a few of the...

    Anyone still running Vanilla 8?

Exactly. If it's working - why change it for little to no benefit. Especially if you believe the update might be of detriment.

    Anyone still running Vanilla 8?

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how many people have not updated to 8.1? And if not, why? My laptop is running 8.1, yet due to OS instability caused by sound card drivers with 8.1 (and no 8.1 driver update available) my Desktop is still only vanilla 8. However since I have several...

EA Games OR Rockstar Games? Which One Do You Like More?

On the whole EA tend to push developers to release games to meet deadlines rather than when they are actually ready. Even worse is that some of those titles are lucky to see a patch or two. But they do have some decent titles. As does Rockstar.

Windows 8.1: Most Metro Apps crash immediately at launch

This card is not compatible with 8.1 it causes many issues like freezing, unresponsivene GUI etc. Fo not update to 8.1 if you usethis card. it renders your OS unusable. There is no current date set to release 8.1 drivers for this card.

    Gimme my Windows 7 back!

To be fair, it did give a 15 min restart warning. In the store app. If you had it focused. And whoever told you 8 was going to be a magic speed bullet over seven might have been confused about a few things. Replacing the mechanical HDD with a SDD would have been the lag bullet.

    Gimme my Windows 7 back!

...the mind boggles. * OP, welcome to the "initial exposure to 8" feeling. For the majority it's a similar experience. However once you learn that things like the mail settings can be changed, you don't actually have to use the apps etc - you will grow used to 8 in no time.

    Oct 17 -- who's got it (W8.1) - Public release only

I KNEW I shouldn't have updated. My perfectly running vanilla 8 is now a unstable freeze fest. This has not been an enjoyable experience tonight. And to top it off my Media centre key knocked out my activation. I'm looking at a bloody fresh install on my desktop after all :( My laptop...

    Oct 17 -- who's got it (W8.1) - Public release only

Third times a charm. Looks like it was an app. Uninstalled them all (didn't have many to begin with) and it went smoothly. One machine down, one to go.

    Oct 17 -- who's got it (W8.1) - Public release only

At least it gave me an error code this time around - 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 which appeared around the preview time. Now to track down the culprit. At least I don't have to keep downloading the update. One more try tonight...

    Oct 17 -- who's got it (W8.1) - Public release only

Sigh. Updated through the store (looong download time) and at the last restart it failed to repair and errored out. Forced to Restore back to 8 Look at it again in the morning. Maybe

Microsoft Releases Windows 8.1 Upgrade Information for Win

So in essence for those running 8 as is, it's basically the same as installing a Service Pack? Good to know. One thing I haven't seen mention of is what, if any, ramifications of not updating 8 to 8.1 will be.

Window Blinds Beta + Firefox issue

I subscribed and I've also since bought the Stardock bundle. It's definitely the Win 8 beta. (It's also worth paying for). Strangely enough it still works when in single screen. Just not in surround.

Window Blinds Beta + Firefox issue

I'm running the trial for Windows Blinds and while it looks good, I've noticed Firefox fails to start. All other browsers, including waterfox - work well. Anyone else using Windows Blinds and have any issues? I've noticed the app tends to crash itself as bit as well.
