Solved - I examined the sata settings in the BIOS and found the SSD drives were not detecting. Or perhaps semi-detecting since the system could boot off of them. I moved them onto different ports and they started to detect. This also restored my proper wake from sleep speed.

The hubs are self powered. I tried to buy the Siig hub before the second hub I chose. Newegg discontinued it and almost every review said it only worked for a short while before dying. I just tried my USB 3 Seagate drive in the hub and it dropped from 182 MB/s to 30 MB/s. My current theory...

I should add that the hub hasn't died since my clean install of Win 8 64 bit with no additional USB 3 drivers. It's only the issue of USB 3 devices plugged into it running at USB 2 speed.

Gman - there is no driver. There are no alerts. The hub continues to function at USB 2 speeds and detect as "Superspeed" (as in USB 3) but also as "Non Functional".

The fail was from two different manufacturers and their sites had no firmware updates. I pretty much gave up on the hub acting as USB 3. Thanks for the heads up - I'll check the action center tonight.
