I am also having this problem on my Surface RT. Ive found keeping the device awake stops it disconnecting, but this keeps the screen on and hence uses a lot of battery power. Ive messed with a lot of the power settings but nothing seems to stop this behaviour.

After you mentioned the name I did some more searching and have managed to fix the problem. The problem was the folder 'C:\Users\User1\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX' was missing. I copied it over from another computer and it now works great. Thanks for the help.
